The Beast of Gevaudan is a mysterious beast that terrorized the countryside of Southern France in the 1700s. Over the course of three years, it killed and devoured upwards of 300 people. One of the first ever international news stories, its final end gave rise to the modern tales of werewolves. To this very day, the ferocious Beast of Gevaudan (La Bete du Gevaudan) remains unidentified.
