As Nero and Archie set up housekeeping in Rome, they simultaneously investigate what turns out to be the pointless murder of a golfer via venom-spiked golf club, and the disappearance and subsequent murder of the watchmaker who constructed the club. Ultimately, they determine the connection of the crimes, the actual murder target, the culprit, and the motive.
