Arriving in New York from Omaha, Wendy Nelson (Deirdre Lenihan) seeks advice from an old family friend, dress manufacturer Nathan Davidson (Norman Fell), and is promptly swept into the business when she is commandeered as a model. In addition to modeling, Wendy helps Sonia (Sandra Deel), Nathan's girl Friday, and matches wits with Charlie (Bernie Kopell), the firm's salesman. Wendy realizes her college "masterpiece" designs are impractical and accepts Nathan's offer to learn the business from him—all this in spite of Nathan's zany brother-in-law partner, Harry (Louis Nye).
