아씨는 남편 긍재가 신여성과 공공연히 외도를 일삼았음에도 불구하고 삼종지덕 여자의 길을 따른다. 시어머니와 시누이의 구박을 참아내며 남편이 밖에서 낳아온 아들 봉구까지 친자식처럼 키워가며 여필종부를 미덕으로 하는 전통적인 한국 여성상을 그려나간다.
