Chapter Five

Ted Hoffman erfährt durch den Privatdetektiv David Blalock, dass Richard Cross' Entlastungszeugin Beverly Nichols alles andere als vertrauenswürdig ist. Kurze Zeit später wird Blalock ermordet. Um herauszufinden, inwiefern Cross in den Mordfall Jessica und nun auch Blalocks verwickelt ist, engagiert Ted den ehemaligen Polizisten Ray Velacek als neuen Ermittler für seine Kanzlei. Dieser findet bei seinen Recherchen sonderbare Dinge heraus.

The preliminary hearing begins for Avedon. The new judge evokes bail and puts Avedon back in custody. The coroner and Det. Polson testify. The case is handed over to the supreme court. Crosses alibi comes under question when a video tape shows up. This tape connects him to Beverly and her husband. Dave, the private investigator, says he can get the tape through a favour that someone owes him. Hoffman recieves a phone call from Dave. He tells about his difficulties getting the tape. Hoffman goes to his hotel room and discovers him dead. A man named Gary was involved in the transaction and Hoffman is suspicious of him. Later, Hoffman meets up with Gary in a restaurant and sees Cross with him. Julie comes to see Hoffman and says she is under treatment with Dr. Graham Lester.

La audiencia preliminar comienza para Avedon. El nuevo juez evoca la fianza y pone a Avedon nuevamente bajo custodia. El forense y el detective. Testifica Polson. El caso se entrega a la corte suprema. La coartada cruzada se cuestiona cuando aparece una cinta de video. Esta cinta lo conecta con Beverly y su esposo. Dave, el investigador privado, dice que puede obtener la cinta a través de un favor que alguien le debe. Hoffman recibe una llamada telefónica de Dave. Cuenta sobre sus dificultades para obtener la cinta. Hoffman va a su habitación de hotel y lo descubre muerto. Un hombre llamado Gary estuvo involucrado en la transacción y Hoffman sospecha de él. Más tarde, Hoffman se encuentra con Gary en un restaurante y ve a Cross con él. Julie viene a ver a Hoffman y dice que está bajo tratamiento con el Dr. Graham Lester.
