貸元に命を救われた紋次郎。娘の婿にという貸元の願いを断り出発。怪我が完治するまで「身代わりになる」という男と出会う。娘との仲を利用し仇の一家を潰そうと考える男と、その男を使って父親に力を示したい娘だったが、紋次郎と男は道中友情が芽生える。しかし仇を倒した後、男は自らの自尊心と出世のため紋次郎に刃を向け…。
Monjiro, indebted to a boss who saved his life, declines the offer to marry the boss's daughter. On the road, he meets a man willing to take his place until Monjiro recovers. Yet, this man harbors schemes to destroy a rival family while the daughter uses him to prove her worth to her father. Bonds of friendship grow between Monjiro and the man, but the clash of ambition and loyalty culminates in betrayal.
