以前、ある貸元に病から救われたことのあった紋次郎は、その貸元の身内と仇の貸元の女房との逢引を目撃する。一見仏のように見えた貸元は、仇の貸元を女房を使って殺し、自分の縄張りを広げる気だった。身内も仇の女房も道具に過ぎないのだ。仇方の三下は紋次郎の警告で計画に気付き、親分を救って手柄を立てようとするが…。
Once saved from illness by a local boss, Monjiro witnesses the boss's family member in a clandestine meeting with the wife of a rival. Beneath his saintly guise, the boss plans to kill his rival using his wife, expanding his territory with ruthless cunning. Everyone, including his own kin, is but a pawn in his game. When Monjiro warns a low-ranking henchman of the plot, a desperate bid to save his boss and earn merit ensues.
