يروي العمل قصة «شمس» التي تربت في كنف عائلة ثانية، بعد أن نبذها أهل قريتها، وطالبوا بإبعادها نتيجة إصابتها بمرض نادر يؤدي إلى تساقط شعرها، وسرعان ما تكبر «شمس» وسط العائلة الجديدة التي أطلقت عليها اسم «مريم»، وأورثتها مالاً فأصبحت سيدة أعمال ثرية. وتمر الأعوام وتتكرر مأساة «شمس» مع ابنة أخيها
