A simple diamond heist leads Lupin into the machinations of a bizarre cult. The cult is based around the prophecies of Nostradamus, and they kidnap Julia, the daughter of Douglas, a wealthy American who is seeking the presidency, along with Lupin's diamond. At stake is the lost book of prophecy Douglas holds in the vault at the top of his skyscraper.
Can Lupin rescue Julia, find a way into the vault, and discover the connection between the cult and the kidnapping? And what about his diamond?

Lupin toujours en voyage, vient de dérober des diamants au Brésil. Il use toujours de stratagèmes pour arriver à ses fins en les cachant dans une poupée qui fait route vers son pays en avion.
Un plan pourtant simple, mais c'est sans compter le fait qu'une fillette du nom de Fujiko Mine va lui dérober sa poupée. Et pour complexifier un peu plus l'affaire, cette jeune demoiselle est kidnappé et l'avion détourné. Les ravisseurs en ont après la même chose que Fujiko : un livre qui renferme la prophétie de Nostradamus caché dans la tour du père de Julia. Mission trois en un pour notre bande : retrouver les diamants, sauver la jeune fille, et découvrir le mystère qui se cache derrière ce livre.

舞台は1999年。原子力潜水艦の爆発事故が発生。本事件について、アメリカの新興宗教集団・ノストラダムス教団は"予言書"の通りだったと発表。後日、今度はサッカー選手団を乗せた旅客機がハイジャックされ、巨大財閥ダグラス財団のひとり娘・ジュリアが攫われてしまった。偶然同機に乗り合わせたルパンと次元の活躍で事件は鎮圧されたが、ジュリアの教育係をしていた不二子によると、アトランタにある財団の本部最上階には、5000万ドルの価値を持つお宝"ノストラダムスの予言書"が眠っているという……。
루팡 3세 풍마일족의 음모 이후 TV 스페셜만 제작되던 루팡 시리즈의 간만의 극장판. TV 시리즈의 시청률이 잘 나오자 극장판도 부활시켜 보자며 풍마일족 이후 8년 만에 제작되었다. 원래 감독은 영화감독 이토 슌야였는데 실사 영화만 찍었던 사람이라 애니메이션 연출을 전혀 하지 못해 강판되고 급히 시라토 타케시로 교체되었다. 작화감독은 루팡 3세에 여러 번 참여했고 나중에 메갈로 복스를 만든 하치자키 켄지. 루팡의 자켓은 붉은색.
