Ali comes to the Florida Keys on a mission to become a certified SCUBA diver and gets to try a west coast tactic on "the big brown bear". Warm water and a desire to see the bottom brought him across the country to fish with his Buddy Rush, but we"ll see if he can also scratch a "bucket head" off his hit list...
It's wintertime in San Diego and Rush is in Ali's backyard trying to cash in on a rain check for a promised species. Any day on the water is better then a day in the office, and if the year round Calico bass and large winter time yellowtail cooperate, we may have a chance at a successful off-season bag.
Ali is back in the Florida Keys with a license to dive and a score to settle with mother nature. Hoping to finally see the structure first hand, Rush takes him to catch some snappers and groupers and then dive in the same spot. He encounters a family run business that is destined for success if they can only "stay off of their own supply".
t is one thing to tell someone about an adventure, and it is another to pluck them out of their daily life and take them on one of a lifetime. Ali and his company BD Outdoors get a kick out of picking random people from their fan base and tearing up their bucket list. See how a giant blue fin tuna can make minds explode in a Cajun adventure in Louisiana.
Rush and Ali invite their new friend, Dave Kustra, the talent behind the amazing Dakus Bones to bottom fish in the Florida Keys. Dave was commissioned to turn Ali’s huge swordfish catch from last season into a skeletal art piece. Both Ali and Rush pick Dave’s mind about his artistic process and his inspiration for this new mount option for trophy fish, all while chasing a mixed bag of Florida Keys reef fish.
It’s wintertime in the Florida Keys and Rush is showing Ali what he calls a good ‘ole grab bag day of fishing. One of the most intriguing aspects of reef fishing is the fact that you never know what the next bite might be. The variety of species available to catch on the reef in Key West and Florida in general are endless. A bag of chum and some freebies rings the dinner bell for an amazing grab bag of fish species on the reef. During this time of year the action can be non stop and you never know what may swim up the chum-line next.
If you are a Florida Keys native or a treasure buff, chances are you know all about the stories of 16th century Spanish galleons that shipwrecked and spilled their fortunes across the shallows of the Keys. The most famous treasure story is that of the late Mel Fischer who devoted his life to the search for lost treasure and cashed out big in the end. In this episode, Rush and Ali are hunting fish in the same waters where the sea claimed so many lives in the past. They meet up with Dan Porter, another modern day treasure hunter and get to see what it takes to hunt treasure aboard his boat, the Sea Reaper. But modern day shipwrecks hold treasure of another type, though just as addicting. Cobia, grouper, snapper and more are the goal and X marks the spot. Ali and Rush use the Sea Reaper as a mother ship from which they explore the wrecks in the area.
Ali hopes to knock a few species off Rush’ s bucket list with a trip to his “second home”, Puerto Vallarta Mexico. It’s a crash course in west coast yacht style fishing and cow yellowfin tuna are the target. Life in the waters of Mexico are abundant, and even when you’re targeting a specific species, sometimes you end up catching the unexpected.
It’ s prime-time fishing season in SoCal and the guys are looking to score an inshore grab bag, but first Ali and his BD Outdoors crew must prep for the 11th Annual Yellowtail Shootout Tournament. Ali and Rush set out to spend a day chasing the 3 B’s of SoCal fishing; bonito, barracuda and bass, as in calico. A mixed bag of bread and butter species using a variety of local methods, Rush gets a taste of what SoCal nearshore fishing is all about.
Ali and Rush fish the San Diego waters in search for floating piles of kelp (kelp paddy) that serve as structure for many bait fish and pelagic species such as tuna, dorado (dolphin) and yellowtail. These kelp paddy’s are an iconic staple of the California fishery and when you find them, the action can be impressive.
