Mathematicians Susumu Nihonmatsu (Takanori Jinnai) and Shigeo Noda (Hiromasa Taguchi) win a prestigious award, but in reality, most of the work was done by Noda alone. At the hotel in Australia where the award ceremony is held, Nihonmatsu is called by Noda's wife, Hikaru (Maki Mizuno), with whom he is secretly in love. Shigeo is lying on the floor motionless after being pushed by Hikaru. After disguising it as an accident, Nihonmatsu creates an alibi involving Furuhata and Imaizumi, who are also on a vacation at the same hotel. Upon returning to his hotel room, Noda is seen by Nihonmatsu alive. After a brief argument regarding a mathematical theorem, Nihonmatsu kills Shigeo and stages a second accident scene involving Noda.
数学者・二本松晋（陣内孝則）は野田茂男（田口浩正）とのコンビで数学の権威ある賞を受賞するが、実際はほとんど野田一人の作業によるものだった。授賞式の行われるオーストラリアのホテルで、二本松は密かに愛し合っている野田の妻・ひかる（水野真紀）に呼び出された。そこにはひかるに突き飛ばされて頭を打った野田が倒れており、死んだと思い込んだ二本松とひかるは偽装工作を行なう。偶然ホテルに居合わせた古畑と今泉を巻き込んで、アリバイを作った二本松が部屋に戻ると、野田は蘇生していた。そこで口論になり、二本松は今度こそ本当に野田を殺害することになる。
