Après s'être fait remarquer sur Canal + avec ses "Sales histoires", une série d'histoires brèves au ton grinçant , Albert Dupontel écrit un one man show même s'il ambitionne déjà de devenir réalisateur... Son destin bascule quand Patrick Sébastien découvre une captation vidéo de son spectacle sur cassette: Il adore et décide d'inviter Dupontel dans son émission et suite à ce passage remarqué il va jusqu'à produire son spectacle qui s'intitule "Sale spectacle". Il le jouera au Tristan Bernard et fait parti du dvd. Ensuite il écrit "Sale spectacle 2 " qu'il jouera à l'Olympia, Albert étant devenu une plus grande vedette. Ce qui saute aux yeux quand on revoit ces 2 spectacles c'est que tout l'univers de Dupontel est déjà présent. Et il affiche une présence incroyable avec une gestuelle qui lui est propre, une diction différente des autres humoristes et une liberté de ton réjouissante.
