Season 1

  • S01E01 The golden age of Malay cinema

The section on the golden age of Malay cinema is substantially researched, and includes interviews with several veterans of the film industry, some of whom have passed on in recent years - Neng Yatimah, S. Shamshuddin and Albert Odell. There are numerous well-placed excerpts from classic films produced by Shaw Brothers' Malay Film Productions Ltd. and Cathay-Keris film studios. Also features shots of Shaw Brothers' abandoned film studio and sound stages at No. 8 and No. 9 Jalan Ampas (the buildings still exist today).

  • S01E02 Filmmaking in 1970s Singapore

    • September 16, 1999

A well-made documentary (episode 2 of 4) that provides a good overview of the state of local film production in 1970s Singapore, after the demise of the studio system of filmmaking in the 1940s to '60s by which the Shaw Brothers and Cathay Organisation thrived. It includes interviews with personalities active in the film industry then - Herbert Lim (son of Lim Chong Pang), Tony Yeow, Lim Meng Chew 林明洲 and Sunny Lim. There are numerous well-placed excerpts from what are now cult movies produced by the independent film companies of the time, eg. 'They Call Her Cleopatra Wong', 'Dynamite Johnson', 'Ring of Fury' and 'Two Sides of the Bridge'.

    • December 25, 1999

A well-made documentary (episode 3 of 4) that provides a good overview of filmmaking in Singapore between 1991 and '97, often dubbed the "revival" period of Singapore cinema. It also includes interviews with personalities active in the film scene then - Errol Pang (executive producer of 'Medium Rare', he passed on in June 2018); Geoff Malone (co-founder and former chairman of the Singapore International Film Festival); Kenneth Tan (chairman of Singapore Film Society); Lim Suat Yen (director of 'The Road Less Travelled'), Eric Khoo (director of 'Mee Pok Man'), and actors Ernest Seah ('Bugis Street') and Lim Kay Tong ('Mee Pok Man').
