During this New Year Holiday in Japan, an average Japanese family will eat Japanese New Year Foods like Osechi and Ozoni as well as traditional Japanese foods from their hometown Prefecture. Because this family's father is originally from Nagano prefecture, we ate that area's food. We also do hatsumode and visit a Japanese Shrine for the first time during the New Year. This is what an average Japanese home does during the Japan New Year Holiday.

Getting married in Japan is fairly straightforward as you'll see. You have to fill out a wedding registration form and submit the form to the Japanese city hall. We also discuss a Japanese Wedding Ceremony and the related costs for us and our guests. This is my experience marrying a Japanese women and having an international marriage in Japan.

His job experiences maybe unique to his company, but fundamentally he is very much an average salaryman.

Tetsuya starts the day in his apartment and as an average Japanese worker, he commutes to work in Tokyo via train. It only takes him 20 minutes to get to work, but soon after arriving, he's busy working at the Japanese food restaurant and preparing Japanese ramen noodles for customers. His main duty is the manager of the ramen shop, but he also creates new gentei limited time menu items as a Japanese ramen chef.

Japan university student life is much different than the Japanese salaryman life as college students have a bit more freedom to pursue hobbies, especially in their senior year of school in Japan. An average Japanese student in Tokyo may have between 15-23 course hours per week while a Japan University student 4th year Senior will have much less such as 9 hours of course hours per week. Yusuke, 22 year old Policy Management Major at Keio University lives with his parents in a 2 story house which is commuting distance to school via train and bus. Typical Japanese University life outside of class and study, also allows for part-time jobs and also a social life with friends.

  • S2020E01 Day in the Life of a Japanese Delivery Worker

    A day in the life working in Tokyo Japan as a Delivery Worker at Sagawa Express, one of the largest transportation companies in Japan. This is what a typical day working in Japan is like if you worked for a large shipping company as a Japanese delivery man or delivery women in Tokyo. Japan work life and Japan work culture can be seen throughout the video from morning until evening. Yasuho, who is 22 years old, recently started working in a Japanese company Sagawa and we follow her through her average working day in Tokyo Japan. These are her typical working hours in Japan. She loves working in Japan and for her Japanese company as a Japanese delivery worker. Japanese delivery women work the same as the delivery men in Japan and there doesn't seem to be much of difference in work responsibilities. In fact, this is a peek into Japan life and Tokyo life that is rare to see, but Yasuho has been kind enough to let us follow her for the day.

Pachinko Hall manager works at Maruhan, one of the largest Pachinko companies in Japan. Pachinko is a type of mechanical ball game resembling pinball, but instead with many tiny balls and with the aim to drop the balls into specific pockets in the machine. If one of the balls, goes into the designated pocket, called STATO CHAKKA, it will initiate a slot machine like roll on the LCD screen. If the numbers or patterns line up, then it’s a jackpot.

Yanagiya only sells A5 Sendai Gyu Beef, which is famous for having a strict grading criteria for it’s meat, as only 30 % of the cows in Miyagi prefecture are good enough to be certified with premium A5 medal. All Japanese beef is considered wagyu beef, but not all Wagyu beef is A5 grade. A5 wagyu beef is the highest quality of meat you can get in Japan based on it’s beef grading system. Basically, you have Yield Grade and a Quality Grade, hence A AND 5.

Wolfy shows us what a Japanese baby would typically do in Japan but also what it is like being raised with bilingual parents. Wolfy's has a Japanese Mom and an American Dad and they live in Tokyo in a 2 bedroom apartment. Wolfy shares the same bedroom as his parents, which is typical in Japan. This bilingual family living in Japan show how mom and dad share the responsibilities of raising a child in Japan. so Wolfy learns both Japanese and English throughout the day. As a Japanese mom raising a Japanese baby, Maiko wakes up early to feed Wolfy and is often woken up in the middle of the night for feedings. The longest stretch of sleep at the moment is from Wolfy's bedtime at 6PM for about 5 hours. After that, throughout the night, he usual wakes up after a few hours.

We follow a Tokyo Politician from from morning until evening to show her workday giving insight on Japanese work culture and Japanese culture in general. We also see Japanese working hours and would it would be like to work in Japan as a politician. Specifically, we will be following a Kugikaigiiin, in English, a City Council Member in Minato-ku in Tokyo. Confusingly, the term Ku in English means ward, a subdivision of a city, yet in Tokyo all of the 23 wards, like Minato-ku, are classified as cities since they’re equally independent and governed like a city even with their own mayor. Hence it's called Minato City. There are 34 council members in Minato city, directly elected by Citizens every 4 years. City Council members, decide on matters such as budgets, ordinances & deliberate and decide on municipal policies, all the while, working closely with the Mayor.

  • S2021E01 Day in the Life of a Japanese Firefighter

    This is a 24 hour day in the life of a Japanese Firefighter in Tokyo Japan. This would be a typical day for a Japan firefighter in Tokyo. To become a firefighter in Tokyo, applicants must pass an exhaustive fire department recruitment examination that is held only once a year which includes both a written and physical exam, culminating into a final interview. Each year there are only a limited number of positions so becoming a Japanese firefighter is highly competitive. Last year, only 1 out 14 applicants, about 7%, were able to pass the full firefighter exam. Soushi became a Tokyo firefighter 1 year after graduating high school and is in his 4th year as Tokyo Firefighter. In Japan, firefighters have 10 different ranks, badges have different numbers of stars and stripes. All firefighters like Soushi start with the first rank, 1 star and 1 stripe, and to earn a promotion to the next rank, 2 stars, the department will generally review a candidates performance, after around 4 years.

    A Day in the Life of a Japanese Manga and Anime Figure Sculptor at Good Smile Company located in Akihabara Tokyo. This is a typical Japanese working day at the office at one of the top figure production companies in Japan. Creating all sorts of popular figures like Jujutsu Kaisen, and even Kimetsu no Yaiba! We follow Sho from morning until evening to see what a complete day would be like working at a Japanese figure making company. Sho works in Japan as a Genkeishi, also known as a Figure Sculptor. Sho sculpts his anime figure prototypes by hand using Nendo, in English putty or clay, in his case, a polyester putty. And for his main tools, uses a toothpick to add putty and a sharp q tip to smooth out the surface. Today, he is working on a Nedoroido ( Nendoroid ) style figure. We also meet and talk to some of the other office workers in the Japanese company and give a full office tour. This is life in Tokyo for a Japanese anime and manga figure sculptor.

Construction workers in Japan have their own unique routines and process when building a house in Japan and this a peek into their daily lives in Tokyo. Japan is also ranked 4th in the world for having earthquakes so earthquake resistant building construction laws have been in place since 1924 and have been updated over the years, such as the shin-taishin standard, requiring that all buildings must be able to withstand a stage 6 seismic event on Japan’s 7-stage seismic scale.

Kana works at Sega Toys, creating some of the most popular toys in Japan, formed in 1998 from its parent company Sega, one of the largest video game and entertainment companies in the world. Although many of the Sega Sammy companies are located in the same building, Sega Toys operate independently with 110 hard working staff to create award winning toys even with major brands like anpanman and disney. Kana is originally from Aichi prefecture but moved to Yamanashi prefecture to attend university majoring in Regional Sociology.

    A day in the life of a Japanese Mangaka aka Manga Creator living in shared house in Tokyo Japan. This is life in Tokyo and life in Japan as an aspiring manga artists living with other mangaka in the same home. Nobi, 25 years old lives in the outskirts of Tokyo. Now living in this unique shared house reserved for only aspiring Manga artists. He lives with 3 other mangaka under this special program called Tokiwaso which provides a living space in addition to support to help develop a manga artist’s career. We follow his daily routine from when he wakes up in the morning in his Japanese home, what his life is like working in Japan as manga artist as well as what he does at night living in Japan. As an aspiring manga artist, his daily schedule varies quite a bit as he has the freedom to dictate his working hours, whether it be spending all his waking moments developing his craft or taking it easy to follow other pursuits.
