The return of Hip Hop Honors after a six-year hiatus was huge, but with a surprise from Diddy and some major beef getting squashed, this year was bigger than ever. All Hail The Queens opened up live from David Gefffen Hall at Lincoln Center with an incredible dance tribute to some of honoree Missy Elliott's best verses, performed by Remy Ma, Nelly Furtado, Trina and host Eve. Naughty By Nature honored Queen Latifah, who performed a medley of her own greatest hits, and Keke Palmer, Ashanti and Dreezy pushed it with a performance of Salt-N-Pepa featuring DJ Spinderella's hottest singles. Teyana Taylor, Dej Loaf and Lil Mama channeled their inner Queen Bee for a tribute to Lil' Kim alongside The LOX and French Montana, and Kim stepped it up and performed her own medley. The support in the room was incredible - Common and #BlackLivesMatter activists Darnell Moore + Alicia Garza reminded us about the importance of community, justice and joy. First Lady Michelle Obama thanked Queen Latifah and Missy Elliott for their support of 'Let Girls Learn.' Plus Phylicia Rashad, Fantasia, Monica, Tweet, Fat Joe, Kelly Rowland, Amber Rose, Keyshia Cole, La La Anthony, Winnie Harlow, DJ Vashtie Kola, Rich Homie Quan, Rah Digga, Lady of Rage, Da Brat, Yo-Yo, Monie Love, MC Lyte, Omari Hardwick, Lela Loren, Dascha Polanco, Jazmine Sullivan and more showed up to honor these amazing artists' careers. After honoring legendary women in hip hop last year, Hip Hop Honors returned to celebrate the golden era of hip hop: the 1990s. Our host Regina Hall brought us through the major television, music video and collaboration moments that brought hip hop into the mainstream. It was a night full of incredible performances, hilarious moments and touching tributes that honored the game changers who made hip hop's crossover possible. Mariah Carey was honored by DJ Khaled and his son Asahd for her genre-crossing hip hop collaborations, and performed one of her greatest hits "Honey" with Da Brat, Jermaine Dupri, The Lox and Mase. Jermaine Dupri and Master P were honored for their contributions to the rise of southern rap with a medley of "Nann," "Make Em Say Uhh!"and "Just Kickin' It" performed by Trick Daddy, Trina, Silkk the Shocker and Xscape. For his ground-breaking sitcom 'Martin,' Martin Lawrence was tributed by co-star Tichina Arnold and comedians Affion Crockett, Lamorne Morris and host Regina Hall. Director Hype Williams was honored by Pharrell Williams for his contributions to the elevation of music videos. A decade as huge as the '90s doesn't stop there. Missy Elliott opened the show with a jaw-dropping performance of her 1999 hit, "She's A Bitch." Teyana Taylor brought back the iconic dance moves of the decade and Ty Dolla $ign, Warren G, Xscape, Remy Ma and Fat Joe performed party hits "This Is How We Do It," "No Scrubs," "Regulate" and "Still Not A Player." Queen Bee Lil' Kim performed "Quiet Storm" with Havoc and Fabolous to tribute the late Prodigy. One things for sure, this block party proved ain't no party like a VH1 party!
