Fred, un uomo di colore amico del Sig. Cunningham, arriva in città per sposarsi e chiede ad Howard di fargli da testimone al matrimonio. Howard lo ospita volentieri a casa sua, è anche un’occasione per ricordare insieme i vecchi tempi. Presto però si accorge che la sua presenza crea un certo imbarazzo nei vicini. Il disagio aumenta quando Marion propone a Fred di celebrare il sacro rito proprio in casa loro.
