God creates the calendar to rule the world, and wants the animals to protect it. The animals all rush to God's temple on new years. But the rat lies to the cat (repeat from episode 40). Zenzaemon, of Kishou Swamp, is sent to learn the secrets of salt-making from Akou Province and is caught. But official Ooishi Kuranosuke is moved by his devotion to his homeland, and lets him go.
