Jeanie begins to realize the burden of living an HIV-positive life when bills start mounting up and Benton throws her out of a trauma. The staff nervously awaits news on the hospital's future when it's rumored to be closing. As it turns out, South Side is closed instead and County takes on a new chief of staff, Dr. Anspaugh. Mark and Susan endure disastrous blind dates. Benton sends Carter to the ER for the day after he arrives late.

Le Dr Greene et le Dr Lewis se croisent par hasard dans une fête foraine, tous les deux accompagnés d'un partenaire avec lequel ils n'ont aucun atome crochu. Ils s'en débarrassent habilement et finissent la soirée ensemble. Jeanie Boulet, quant à elle, a une violente altercation avec le Dr Benton qui n'admet pas que sa consur continue de soigner des malades en se sachant atteinte du sida. Mais Jeanie a peur de perdre son emploi si elle révèle la vérité à la direction. Et pour ne prendre aucun risque, elle décide de ne pas déclarer son état à sa compagnie d'assurance... Benton sermonne Carter pour son retard ; celui-ci se venge en n'anesthésiant que localement un patient bavard...
