Elmo opens his door which is full of shelves of books. Unprovoked, the shelves break in unison, dumping the books on the floor. Dorothy wants to know how you read a book. Mr. Noodle sits on a book, examines the binder, and holds the book upside-down without ever successfully reading the book properly. The Kids and Elmo tell him to turn it upside-down, so he sits in a chair on his head to read. Kids read some books, one of which starts with the line "Put Down the Duckie." Elmo counts how many books will fill up the bookshelf. The Count is shown reading books in bed. Elmo's friend Michael goes to the library with his dad to get a book on dinosaurs. The Book Channel airs a program about a girl who loves books. Coming up next: "Our Miss Books" starring Book Shields. Elmo talks to two books. One is a picture book about the circus. Taking a note from the circus book, Dorothy imagines Elmo as a tightrope walker. And from other books, she sees him as a cowboy, and as a brave knight challenging Mr. Dragon. Elmo presents his home video he made about Dorothy's favorite book, Moby Dick.
Elmo opens his door and becomes buried under dozens of toy brass instruments. Dorothy wants to know how you make music with a drum. Mr. Noodle attempts to play a marching band drum by wearing it on his back. After he finally straps it on properly, he finds that it's difficult to pick up the drum stick. When he finally beats the drum, it makes his body shake all over. Kids play different types of simple drums, and one boy plays a professional drum set. When Elmo asks a baby, he bangs away on a bowl with a plastic spoon. Elmo wants to know how many strings a typical guitar has. Drawer plays some big band music and opens up to show the options in Elmo's quiz. Little birds make music, and so do Big Birds. Some of Elmo's friends in school make their own instruments with ordinary objects. In a rare move for one of Elmo's friend's films, Oscar makes an appearance at the end to smash two trash can lids together. The Music Channel shows a documentary about the very first music played in the entire world ever. Coming up next: The Music Man, The Sound of Music and Name That Tune. Elmo talks to an accordion and a clarinet. Dorothy imagines Elmo in a New Orleans jazz band. Elmo has made a video of Herry humming the "Elmo's World Theme," which Elmo can't help joining in on.

When he finally goes to take a bite, it pops up out of the peel and lands in Elmo's hands. Kids show how to peel and eat bananas. Elmo counts the number of bananas in a hat. Chairs, skateboards and bananas don't eat bananas, but monkeys do. Elmo's friend Michael made an entire meal of bananas: banana bread, fried bananas, banana pancakes, banana smoothies and banana pudding. All of Michael's friends came over for a banana feast. The Banana Channel (containing programming with a-peel) tells the story of bananas. Coming up next on The Banana Channel: "A Bunch & Other Stuff". Elmo talks to a comedian banana with his own drum riff to accent his jokes. Elmo learns that he knows enough about bananas to be a banana. Dorothy imagines Elmo as a banana in a banana tree who is shaken free and chased by a monkey through a supermarket. Attempting to answer one of the age-old mysteries, Elmo shows his film "Can a Banana Peel Itself?"

Mr. Noodle's brother Mr. Noodle brushes his hair with a toothbrush, a paintbrush and a hairbrush in turn. He brushes his hair to stick straight out from his head. Kids show how they brush or comb their hair. Elmo asks a baby with a baby hairbrush but realized that babies don't have hair...yet. Elmo asks the viewer to help him count CGI brushes brushing his fur (of which Elmo is covered in) and tickling him. Elmo asks questions about what has hair and what doesn't. A Muppet tortoise appears with a black pompadour wig asking Elmo if he has ever heard of "The Tortoise and the Hair". Elmo's friend Joseph and his mom go to a barber shop for Joseph to get his first haircut. Elmo dresses up as Cousin Itt from The Addams Family. The Hair Channel shows "The Kingdom Where Everybody's Hair Looked The Same." Coming up next: "From Hair to Eternity" and "When Hairy Met Sally." Elmo talks with Rapunzel (a Green Anything Muppet) about hair. Dorothy imagines Elmo in the story of Rapunzel. Elmo, wearing the same wig as Rapunzel back in his room, lets his hair down for Prince Charming to climb, then Elmo puts the wig on Prince Charming, slides down the braids and leaves. The Prince was now trapped in the tower and asked Elmo to come back, but that's not how the story goes. Just before Rapunzel leaves Elmo's room, she accidentally trips Elmo down with her hair. Elmo finds Bert with flat hair after showering. He ruffles Bert's hair while Bert protests that he needs to "put some gunk" on his hair.
Elmo opens his door to an avalanche of flowers and plants, and is raised off the floor by a tree. Dorothy wants to know how you give water to a plant. Mr. Noodle's brother Mr. Noodle takes a drinking glass out of his pocket, fills it with water and takes a drink. He fills up the glass again and tries to let the plant drink from one of its leaves and offers it a straw before pouring the water into its pot. In response, the plant shoots a stream of water back into his face. Kids water their Geraniums and potted trees while a baby chews his finger in front of a stuffed toy flower. Elmo counts 9 squirrels in a tree before he realizes that it was one squirrel popping out 9 times to fool Elmo. Elmo asks Drawer what else grows out of the ground, such as carrots, orange trees and worms that live in the ground. Except for Slimey who lives in Oscar's trash can. Elmo shows a video about his friend Cody who grew his own plant. The Flower Plant and Tree Channel shows a cartoon with the Tree Lady about how to grow trees. A cactus tells Elmo that he's a plant even though he doesn't have leaves, and even shows Elmo how he can grow a flower on the spot. Elmo tries to water him, but the cactus tells him he doesn't need that much water. A tumbleweed rolls by to inform Elmo that lots of other plants that live in the desert. Dorothy imagines Elmo living in a big city watering his plants, and as a construction worker. Next, Elmo appears at the bottom of the ocean where there's plenty of water. Finally, Elmo appears as Tarzan in the jungle, where lots and lots of plants live. Elmo shows his expose called, Stinky the Plant.

Elmo imagines 123 Sesame Street, a regular house and Oscar's trash can, meaning he's thinking about homes. Smartie shows up at Elmo's door this time and gets so caught up in the idea of homes, she starts singing "Home on the Range." Elmo and the kids figure out which area certain homes belong in. Mr. Noodle demonstrates what kind of homes he and Schmoodle live in.
Elmo imagines a colorful rainbow. Smartie shows Elmo her new, colorful background. She then shows Elmo video of colors in the world. Elmo and the kids find what two colors they need to mix to create pumpkin orange. Schmoodle is instructed to find something red. He finds items of other colors, finally finding a photo of Elmo, who is red.
Elmo is wondering about Father's Day and imagines his own father. Smartie shows Elmo videos of fathers. Elmo prepares a Father's Day card and has the kids point out what shapes will make up a flower. Mr. Noodle's brother, Mr. Noodle, attempts to demonstrate Father's Day, but whips out a Christmas tree and Jack-o-Lantern. He finally brings in Papa Noodle and the two dance.
Elmo imagines Bert deposing of a plastic bottle in a recycling bin by 123 Sesame Street. Smartie has altered her wallpaper to show the Earth, then shows Elmo videos of recycling in progress. Elmo and the kids identify which recycling bin each object belongs in. Mr. Noodle's brother, Mr. Noodle, is told to recycle a bunch of plastic bottles. Mr. Noodle finds that doesn't entail eating them, playing basketball with them or stuffing them in his shirt.
Elmo imagines a field of roses, which help him become camouflaged. Smartie's case helps her blend into Elmo's wallpaper as he looks for her. Elmo and the kids identify which animals are properly camouflaged in the woods. Mr. Noodle's brother, Mr. Noodle, tries to camouflage himself. He eventually manages to blend into the trees.
Elmo imagines 123 Sesame Street, his own habitat. He also imagines Big Bird in his habitat (his nest) and Oscar in his (a trash can). Smartie's habitat is also Sesame Street and shows Elmo video of various types of habitats. Elmo and the kids identify which animal belongs in which habitat. Mr. Noodle's brother, Mr. Noodle, stuck in a cold climate, must figure out what animal also shares that habitat. He imitates an elephant and chicken before finally dressing as a penguin. He's rewarded with a fish.
Elmo imagines a kitchen, where Cookie Monster is cooking a soup. Smartie dresses as a chef and cooks up some videos of cooking for Elmo. Elmo and the kids make a mushroom and avocado quesadilla. Mr. Noodle cooks some spaghetti. He places one single noodle in the pot and winds tangled in it.

Happy Holidays! is a 2002 Sesame Street direct-to-video special -- a one-hour edition of "Elmo's World" that explores the traditions of Christmas, Kwanzaa and Chanukah.
The story is told by Stiller the Elf to Stan the Snowball, recounting the year Christmas almost didn't happen. Stiller recalls that Oscar the Grouch had been researched as the one who had more Christmas joy than anyone else. As such, he plans to give Oscar the official Christmas-Counter-Downer, without which Christmas can't happen. When Oscar throws it away, the windows on the device vanish, and it's up to Elmo to once again save Christmas.
