Aroussia Chared is a wealthy, severe but generous woman, who comes from an old middle-class Tunisian family. Aged over 80, she is the widow of a notable of the countryside, Boubaker Chared, of Aithet El Maghraoui in the northwest of Tunisia. She was married for the first time to Belhassen Azzouz, a citizen of the Tunisian upper middle class, with whom she had two twins: Hédi and Béhija; he leaves her when she is 27 years old to marry a richer woman and keeps custody of the children at his home in Tunis.
