Dragon's Lair

The series chronicles the adventures of Dirk the Daring, who is best knight in King Ethelred's kingdom. Dirk performs all sorts of great deeds while protecting the kingdom and his love, Princess Daphne. The show was generally run of the mill, but boasted an unusual feature: to keep the show in the spirit of the game, before each commercial break a narrator would ask what the viewer would do to solve the problem facing Dirk the Daring. After the commercial break, the outcomes of the various choices were shown before Dirk acts on the correct idea (with the occasional exception) to save the day. In contrast to the original game, the previously nameless Dragon was known given the name Singe, and Princess Daphne now wore a long pink dress.

Dragon’s Lair foi um dos primeiros jogos eletrônicos em laserdisc, lançado em junho de 1983 pela Cinematronics. Trata-se duma animação interativa, cujo designer era Don Bluth, um ex-animador da Disney. A maioria dos outros jogos da época eram representados por sprites que consiste em umas séries de bitmaps animados em sucessão. O jogo fez tanto sucesso que inspirou um desenho animado feito pela Ruby-Spears que no Brasil foi batizado de “Os invencíveis dragões”. No desenho, o dragão, que não tinha nome no jogo, foi batizado como “Singe”, e o cabelo da Princesa Daphne se tornou castanho em vez de loiro.

Действие мультфильма разворачиваются в средневековье и основывается на одноимённой компьютерной игре. Отважный рыцарь сэр Дирк Бесстрашный защищает замок короля Этельреда и его дочь Дафни от различных монстров, злодеев и дракона Синджа. С учётом того, что компьютерная игра содержала интерактивный элемент, где игроку предстояло сделать выбор, что меняло ход игры, аналогичную сюжетную составляющую так же было решено сохранить. Перед каждым наступлением рекламной паузы, Дирк сталкивался с дилеммой, и, в соответствии с духом игры, рассказчик озвучивал варианты возможных действий. После рекламной паузы, проигрывались исходы различных вариантов. Так же в мультфильме появляются и отрицательные персонажи из игры, кроме Синджа и его головорезов это король Ящеров, рыцарь-призрак, болотный монстр и другие.
