New Amsterdam is a very entertaining medical drama, and their recent season 3 premiere didn’t hold back on the excitement, as we witness a passenger jet make an emergency landing on New York City’s East River, similar to Sully Sullenberger’s miracle on the Hudson. Just because the show is exciting doesn’t mean it’s medically accurate though, so I dove in to assess the reality of what a large-scale trauma emergency would look like. A few moments here left me scratching my head, such as the high improbably case of a plane’s antifreeze preventing a wound from clotting, and why a hospital would ever intentionally hide a patient from law enforcement.
