Chad interrupts the attack on Marlena, but when she comes to, she believes Chad is the one trying to kill her. When he hears Rafe arriving to see Marlena, Chad makes a split-second decision to run off, convinced Rafe won't believe he's innocent. At home, he grabs his passport and suitcase and flees, but not before contacting Abigail to explain why he's leaving. At the same time, he also confesses his love for her. Abigail takes him to a secret hideaway, convincing Chad to stay and figure out who the real killer is. To his disappointment, she reveals she's leaving town with Ben. Marlena tells John and Rafe that Chad attacked her. The men go in search of Chad. Daniel, meanwhile, convinces a jittery Marlena to stay in the hospital overnight, where he wants to keep her for observation. The identity of the Necktie Killer is revealed! Jennifer runs into an out-of-breath Clyde, who insists on micromanaging Ben and Abigail's wedding. Jennifer blurts that she thinks he might not even be at the wedding, then covers by saying his micromanagement could convince Ben to freeze him out. Meanwhile, Abigail begs Ben to give her another chance, and he agrees only if she will start a new life with him outside of Salem. Abigail agrees and leaves to tell her mother. Jennifer is upset at first but then realizes Abigail's departure will keep her safe from Clyde. Meanwhile, Clyde learns from Ben that he and Abigail plan to start a new life away from Salem. Realizing Ben wants to leave due to Chad, he convinces Ben not to run away. He's confident Chad will soon be arrested and sent to prison. Ben buys his father's argument and agrees to stay.
