We hope you enjoy our respective takes on the return of Season 3 with episode 3.11 – Rapture… and whether you do or don’t, be sure to let us know!
It’s going to be a long 2 weeks with no new episodes of BSG until February 11, but we can help fill the void: Matt + Nat are going to be doing a special “Theory” only videoblog next week, bringing together some old an new ideas of where the series is going.
It’s been a rough wait, thanks to Superbowl Sunday, but in a few short days, we’ve got a fresh episode of BSG coming our way… but since two weeks is too long to wait, we wanted to give some of the under-currents of Battlestar Galactica a bit of focus. The Theories, the speculation, all the things that could be going on behind the scenes.
The two of us don’t entirely agree on this episode, and like most of the BSG geek community, we’re pretty split on whether ot not to like this episode… between the over promised Roslin-Zarek & Six-HeadBaltar scenes, and the over delivered Helo scenes, this episode is still a contraversy.
Sorry it’s a bit late this week… but we went to Miami for Nat’s birthday, and also wound up meeting up with a fellow BSGcast comment contributor, DJ Brazen, while we were there! So this week we have quite a bit to say about this Adama-centric episode that continues the recent pattern of stand-alone episodes. From the dysfunctional relationships of the Adamas and the Tyrols, to the sexual tension of The President and the Admiral, the episode does a better job of asking questions than answering them.
Thankfully, this week’s episode of BSG seems to be a return to form leading into what will hopefully be a stellar last few episodes for Season 3, and Matt + Nat have plenty to say… and disagree about this politically and socially charged story, written by Jane Espenson, of Buffy/Angel/Firefly fame.
A shocker in the true sense of the word. For fear of giving away spoilers to the unwilling, we’ll try and stay cryptic… we are both grapsing for every “say it ain’t so” theory we can imagine, and hopefully you can chime in with your own, but we really feel that there is more to this episode than meets the eye! Hopefully our theories can give you a bit of consolation while you gently cry your self to sleep each night from now on…
Without being named that way, this episode has been described as part one of a three episode finale… we’re really hoping the last two episodes of the season pick up the momentum a bit from this one. It gives us some closure for Lee, Anders and Adama after the events of last week, and it’s great setup for Baltar’s Trial with the introduction of Romo Lampkin, his defense attourney. But all in all, we find it falls a bit flat and is difficult to enjoy as just an episode.
Holy Frak… that was one hell of a Part 1… lots of great loose ends to (hopefully) tie up before the end of Part 2… and we’re quite sure there will be a tonne of new wackiness set loose in Part 2 that we’re not going to see resolved until NEXT January. Between Roslin’s Cancer relapse, Lee’s resignation, Tigh’s public flogging, Tori and Anders’ longing glances and the mysterious signal coming in over the wireless, there is a lot of ’splainin’ to do!
Just because we need somewhere to put this sweet little ditty.
Here it is guys! At last! With another 9 months until we get the cliffhanger resolved, we’ve got some BSG this fall to look forward to in the form of a 2-episode Pegasus-centric BSG-event, but otherwise, we’re hangin’ in the breeze ’til ‘08, gang. In the meantime, there’s lots of BSGcast goodness and YourGeekNews.com fun to come, so keep checking!
So, here it comes, just in time to enjoy before sitting down to watch Razor with a belly full of turkey and pumpkin pie: the first honest to goodness BSGcast in over a half year! We crammed all seven “Razorettes” into one BSGcast, it just made sense that way. And you can look for our Spoiler-iffic Razor review to pop up here in the next 24 hours!
Well, one of Matt’s New Year’s Resolutions was to finally edit this Tricia Intimate + Interactive Talk together in some form. We’re not in it, since we’ve been busy shooting the Razor DVD review, but at the very least you’ll see Tricia go into the non-spoiler but certainly teasing elements about Season 4, as well as some of the bits about co-stars like James Callis, Michael Hogan and Edward James Olmos that are just fun. So hopefully you get a laugh and a gasp out of some of what Tricia had to say about what’s to come!
So, if you’ve subscribed to the BSGcast RSS feed, you might have noticed that you got an early look at the BSGcast for RAZOR… THat was pretty much an accident, since it wasn’t quite right! But Matt’s just a bit of a crazed perfecetionist, so you might not even know the difference. If you’re not subscribed, you can get it on iTunes! Either way, here is it is at last, and hopefully you have a lot to say about Razor, because we sure did… between the ’secrets’ that were revelaed, and the ones that weren’t, Razor had its ups and downs, but overall we loved the 2-hour telemovie. And if we didn’t have to wait until April to see more, we’d love it even more. So Pipe up and let us know what you think, too!
Matt + Nat take on the most interesting and daunting part of the Extended Edition DVD of “Razor”: The Hybrid’s Prophecy… taking it line by line and dissecting the meaning, there is a LOT more there than you might think… Next week we finish off our DVD Review by talking about the differences in the Extended Cut and the bonus features of the DVD!
With the speculation over the Hybrid’s cryptic messages out of the way, Matt + Nat take on the Razor DVD as a whole! From extra scenes and shots to added features: If you haven’t picked up the DVD yet, this is a good *free* way to decide if you should! :)
So, we were planning to cram a Season 3 DVD Review in to this one, but it was running long, so today we’ll be bring you some info on the newly green-lit BSG spin-off Caprica, a bit about the BSG appearance on Letterman, and an update on the April 4-5 Frak Party in Las Vegas and LIVE BSGcast!
Since the release, we’ve been furiously watching the new Season 3 DVD set, the single biggest BSG DVD Box Set ever, and it takes one BIG BSGcast to cover it all. We go into the commentary tracks, special features, and dive right into the really meaty stuff: the Deleted scenes… including the 25-minutes of extended “Unfinished Business”. Whether you’re on the fence about buying it, or you’ve bought the set and want to chat about it, this is one BSGcast that will make you watch Season 3 all over again! .
At long last, our season has begun… and for a lot of fans like us, it began in style! With Dr. Kevin Grazier, Science Adviser on BSG, and Luciana Carro, AKA Captain ‘Kat’ Katraine, along with a room full of YOU we managed to have a pretty epic BSGcast to commemorate the premiere episode of Season Four!! Thanks to everyone who made it such an amazing party, and a great chance to meet so many friends in person!
Guest correspondent Rudy Jahchan gets the enviable opportunity to talk to one of the smartest people on Earth: the Science Advisor on Battlestar Galactica. It’s some seriously hot geek on geek action that is not to be missed… not to mention the fact that Kevin knows who the final Cylon is, and might just be willing to talk… for a price!
The beautiful and talented Luciana Carro, who played Starbuck’s Nugget-turned-CAG nemesis ‘Kat’ in Battlestar Galactica, sits down for a chat with BSGcast Las Vegas Correspondent Rudy Jahchan to talk about her experiences on the show, what she’s up to now, and the information she’s privy to for Season 4.
Matt + Nat get back to the regularly scheduled BSGcast with the second episode of the regular season, “Six of One”, with lots to say about Cylon Insurrections, Multiple Super-Pimp Baltars, and Lee’s increasingly pop-star wardrobe…
Another monster plot development episode, yet somehow three Cylon Baseships blew up, and the mother of a Human/Cylon Hybrid got tossed out an airlock. Nice. Nat has her love of seeing the end of Cally, and Matt has a few problems with the episode itself. But we all loved that Epic Pimp-Slap, right?
So, “Escape Velocity” in a nutshell was brilliantly directed by Eddie Olmos (”Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down”) and masterfully written by Jane Espenson (”Dirty Hands”… anyone else notice Galen’s nod to that episode “to put her up against the bulkhead and shoot her”), but did it have enough action to keep everyone happy? We’re stewing the character arcs now, we know we’re getting ready for what is sure to be a massive cliffhanger for episode 10 of the season, but did it keep everyone satisfied for another week?
Written by Battlestar Prometheus‘ Ryan Keeton and Galacticast’s Rudy Jahchan, featuring the wild and wonderful characters in attendance at the Season 4 Premiere Frak Party in Vegas, this is BSGcast’s answer to the Battlestar Galactica Top 10 List from David Letterman.
More Starbuck the crazy captain hunting her while whale… and this time she catches a Leoben just before her crew decides to Mutiny. A lot happens in this episode, but did it keep your attention? Did it give you your BSG fix? Matt and Nat enjoyed some parts more than others… what about you? Let us know!
Starbuck’s and Leoben’s plots coming to head at last! Matt + Nat had a lot to say about this one… and with all the Hybrid’s prattle, we might have a few new theories to bandy about. Harbinger of Death takes on a whole new meaning for us, and it’s looking like the Hybrid and Baltar seem to be on the same page with their prophesy!
We have to wait TWO WEEKS to find out what happens after “JUMP!”? Whose idea was Memorial Day anyway? What the hell Ron… that was amazing. Gaeta, Baltar, Roslin, Natalie, Athena… a lot of plots are all happening at once in one place in this cliffhanger.
Without which not indeed, Ron…. after skipping a Friday for Memorial Day, we are treated to a VERY contravercial episode. We’ve heard someone say it came close to Woman King as his least favourite episode. Ouch. Matt loved it, Nat not so much, but what about you?
For this week’s BSGcast, we find ourselves in Houston, Texas, away from the usual studio and bringing you a special BSGcast from the comfort of the hotel room as we chat about how “the Hub” managed to make the lines between Human and Cylon even more blurred. After a week of fretting over the fate of Baltar and Roslin, we’re getting to see the flip-side of last week’s episode… the battle of the Resurrection Hub was glorious, but the character beats in “The Hub” were definitely the highlight. Both of us were in tears for the last scene.
We got completely blindsided yesterday with a preview of what the Graystone and Adams families have in-store for BSG fans… and it looks like a serious departure from the military drama we’re all used to, but the moral and ethical dilemmas abound! We’ll be doing a mini “Capricast” on the teaser to give you our thoughts, but in the meantime have your say right here!
Eddie and Aaron did a Q&A Session at Fan Expo Canada on Sunday, as well as signed autographs and chatted with fans. Last year we got to shoot Tricia Helfer’s Q&A and posted it here, and good news, we’ll be ding the same for this one! It was a good session… and LONG. So we’ll break it up into 3 parts and post it up here ASAP!
Part 2 in our three part Q&A with Aaron and Eddie from Fan Expo 2008 in Toronto… it was an hour session, so be prepared for a SUPER-long Part 3 next week!
And here it is! Part 3 in our three part Q&A with Aaron and Eddie from Fan Expo 2008 in Toronto. If you’ve caught the 10-minute version of Part 3 on YouTube or elsewhere, this is the SUPER extended version, squeezing every last drop of info and insight out of the one-hour session!
Flashback to mid-2008, this is what we signed up for: we were cliffhung like no other show on TV can do… in fact, cliffhung in a way Ron Moore has never done before, Revelations made the back half of 2008 go by REALLY slowly!
Our last regularly scheduled episode until 2009, this was a very special episode of BSGast where we examined the single biggest mind-frak Ron has yet to unleash on us: Earth. When is it? What’s happened? Is it really earth? Was that the Brooklyn Bridge? Why is Baltar so awesome? Matt and Nat give a shot at all those questions, and then some to help spark even more debate on what the hell is going on!?
We’ve not just got a review of the first 5 “Face of the Enemy” Webisodes coming your way, but also some news about a very cool contest from Auction Network that will get you inside the Propworx Battlestar Galactica Auction and be a part of Sci-Fi history!
So what does a sneak peek to the preview of the BSG Prop auction look like? A lot like an interview with Propworx CEO Alec Peters, who answers our burning questions while taking a leisurely stroll through rows and rows of priceless costumes and set pieces from our favourite show!
Now that we’ve all had a chance to see the final episode in the 10-part webisode series, it’s time to give it a full review and put our two cents in on what’s going on with Gaeta… and Baltar!
Today is the THE day!! The BSGcast LIVE Frak-Party on January 16-17 is not only happening at the same place as the PROPWORX Battlestar Galactica Prop Auction, but now we’ve got special exclusive PREVIEW access to the auction items on Friday before the bidding even begins! That means everyone who makes it out to Pasadena for the Frak Party on Friday January 16th will get to spend the afternoon up-close and personal with costumes, set pieces, and even full-size props like Apollo’s Viper! And we’ll have access to the Propworx auction ALL WEEKEND LONG! How bad-ass is that? On top of our exclusive preview of the items on Friday, we’ll have the heads of departments like costume and props attending our Official Cast and Crew Premiere Screening on January 16th, as well as our Q&A sessions and soirees all weekend, so you can pick their brains for colourful anecdotes, get autographs and take lots of pictures! As of now, we’ve got our Vegas Alumni Luciana Carro and Dr. Kevin Grazier confirmed for January 16th+17, as well as the one and only Richard Hatch! We’re also still chatting with Michael Hogan, Tricia Helfer, Tahmoh Penikett and Kandyse McClure’s people to get them there too… it IS L.A. afterall, and they’re usually right there! Just like in Vegas, we’ll be running silent auctions with proceeds going toward our special guests’ favourite charities!
This is the first of our BSGcast LIVE Episode.
Nat chats with Battlestar Galactica’s revered Costume Designer, Glenne Campbell, to find out about the challenges and highlights of working on the entire series, brings us in on a very personal moment during the auction and touches a bit on her upcoming work on Caprica!
Matt gets the chance to chat with the actor behind Galactica’s X.O. Colonel Saul Tigh, Michael Hogan. He talks about being Canadian, his acting career, attending conventions and how much he wants to win the cPanel Flat Panel HDTV we’re giving away! For a character that’s so angry and bitter, the actor sure is a delightful dude! But then again, he DOES live in Canada, so being in Los Angeles in the middle of January puts a smile on any of our faces… even Saul Tigh’s! :)
The first proper BSGcast review of the final 10 episodes, we break this beautiful character piece of an episode down into the essential elements and call BS on Ron’s Retcon of Nikki’s parentage. That aside, we’re all smiles about “Disquiet”, because the set-up is clearly going somewhere, and we’re sure it’s gonna be good!
It’s been two weeks since BSGcast LIVE in Pasadena, California, and it’s time to announce the winner of the cPanel Flatpanel 32″ HDTV plucked from the comments on the five episodes that were recorded LIVE at the Battlestar Auction for the premiere of the back-10 of the season!
Gaeta’s Mutiny is on, and we’ve got murder on the Galactica… it’s like the start of Season two, Cylons not included. And that’s where all the terrifying goodies are. It goes without saying that we loved the episode, and watching one of our most beloved characters get on the wrong side of Adama made use both very uncomfortable. Now THAT’s good TV.
The amazing conclusion of the 2-part Mutiny storyline answered a few questions, but none that Part 1 hadn’t come up with in the first place… which makes us both ask the question: why? Why spend 2 episodes starting and ending a storyline with SO MANY important questions still hanging? We trust in Ron, and we loved this Mutiny storyline and Gaeta’s enormous arc, but we still have to ask why?
Word Salad. No other term quite sums up this exposition-heavy BEAST of an episode. With many long-standing questions answered and a few more posed, Ellen’s return and Anders’ brain-bullet managed to cause a virtual deluge of mythos from the origin and travels of the final five to the end of the first cylon war, the source of resurrection technology and skin jobs… the list goes on. Needless to say, if you’ve not seen the episode yet, GO WATCH IT!
This week’s episode featured a stellar performance from Michael Hogan during the plot about Tigh and Six’s baby in the wake of Ellen’s return, and curious side-plots about Baltar’s Harem and Galactica’s paint drying… yet we couldn’t help but feel like this episode came up short on actual plot. Compared to “No Exit” last week, virtually any episode would feel like it’s standing still, but with only 4 episodes left and SO much more to be explained, by the end of “Deadlock” we were both pretty underwhelmed.
For the Propworx Battlestar Galactica Auction, The Auction Network set out to find the perfect two fans to do colour commentary while the items were up for bidding, and one of the big winners was Ryan Keeton, author of Battlestar Prometheus and all around BSG super-fan, who was flown in to Pasadena all the way form his home in Leesville, LA! Enjoy as he takes us around some high-profile BSG props, sets and costumes!
Nat sits down with Richard Hatch, the actor behind Tom Zarek in the current Battlestar Galactica and Apollo in the original, to try and get some information about the rest of the series, and specifically what’s in store for his character. Little does she know, with Richard Hatch, information comes at a price.
This episode gave us shivers in all the right places and all the wrong places… it’s been a while since Battlestar delivered SO solidly on both stories in an episode, but in this run up to the end, we can definitely expect more of it. Between the Helo/Boomer/Athena affair and Starbuck playing piano with her head-father, “Someone to Watch Over Me” Has definitely given us a serious tee-up for the next three episodes to come!
The very last of our non-two-part-cliff-hangers for the season. Can’t you tell? Ah, it seems like every episode of this season has been one cliff-hanger after the next, but with Hera in Cylon hands and Anders acting all kinds of Hybrid, there’s lots to talk about in this momentum-building tee-up of an episode!
We were in Austin for South by Southwest and got to watch Part 1 of Daybreak at the Alamo Drafthouse! We managed to shoot in the lobby of the Hilton across from SXSW and got some great theories from fans like us after this doozy of an episode! It was simultaneously esoteric and tense and after this one, Daybreak Part 2 is shaping up to be one hell of knock-down drag-out battle from front to back!
This is it… let the sobs of joy and sadness begin. Our beloved show has come to an end in a two-hour TV event that none of us are soon to forget. And how did it end? With a bang or with a whimper? Let’s start discussing it!
We take the BSGcast into new territory with a retrospective look at Season 3, and get down to the real themes and under currents that made this a season to remember… and it might be a little funnier than you’d expect, thanks to our dear friends Casey and Rudy from The Galacticast!
In the dead of the season break, we’ve got a shiny little gem of BSGoodness to share with you. Well, actually two. Not only is the Battlestar Prometheus story up to a climactic Episode 10 season finale, but we managed to land some face time with Katee ‘Starbuck’ Sackhoff while she was at Polaris21, and she let us in on some info on the post-Crossroads situation on her character, as well as some info on the Pegasus telemovie “Razor” and even went into the details of keeping secrets from the rest of the cast! Watch for part 2 of the interview coming next week…
As promised, we bring you Part 2 of our exclusive little sit down with Katee "StarBuck" Sackhoff. This time, we focus a bit less in the area of upcoming Galactica spoilers. Instead we get some insight into Katee as an actress, her past and upcoming roles, and of course, we do find out what the meaning of BSG is in her eyes. If you enjoyed Part 1, you’ll love the second half!.
Ok, so we had a booth at the Fan Expo this year, and it was a pretty huge event. And we’ve got to say thanks to Tootie for swinging by the booth and chatting some serious BSG! Hopefully she’s loving the BSGcast.com thong. Oh yes, we made those special for the event. All we can say is: “Do Your Job”, Tootie :) This video feature breaks from the traditional, and instead chronicles our exploits while we were there. Nat got an exclusive with Greg Pak, the writer behind the Battlestar Galactica comics, and, of course, with Tricia Helfer there, we made sure to get some info out of her about Season 4 and Razor during her Intimate & Interactive session! You’ll get a pretty big kick out of all the feature, and later this week look for Tricia’s I&I right here!
Nat managed to swing an interview with THE writer of the Battlestar Galactica comicbook tie-in miniseries, Grag Pak. Between his chattgin with Ronald D. Moore and his writing Marvel’s 2007 mega-story, World War Hulk, Greg Pak is a busy man, with some amazing stories to tell about his work, and why you might just want to pick up an issue of Battlestar Galactica.
We’ve collected our Daybreak thoughts and read through more than 700 comments worth of yours as well on BSGcast.com, so you can bet the Alienware Gaming Computer giveaway is a LONG episode for both of those reasons!
Thanks to the miracle of DragonCon, Nat had the chance to sit down with Alessandro Juliani, the multi-talented Canadian actor behind her favourite character, Lt. Felix Gaeta. Find out what he had to say about the finale (SPOILER WARNINGS!), the mutiny arc and get a glimpse into the mystique of the man… the MAN-stique.
In keeping with our apparent theme of beloved characters who die in the back-10 of the final season, Nat had the chance to chat with Michael Trucco, the actor behind Samuel T. Anders, the resistance-fighter-turned-cylon (or would he really be the cylon-turned-resistance-fighter?). He tells us his thoughts on the finale, working with Katee, playing injured in a tub of goo, and what’s next for him in his acting career.
Everyone seems to have loved our interview with Mary McDonnell so much, that we decided to keep it up! So at DragonCon we managed to sit down and chat with a few more of the incredible actors that brought us some of the characters we know and love from BSG, to get a bit of insight into how they experienced the show from their perspective. First up, Matt chatted with the beautiful and talented Kandyse McClure who played Anastasia Dualla for almost the entire run of the series… almost. So consider this your spoiler warning! From her thoughts on the growth of her character, to what she’s up to now, Kandyse gives us a great peek into what makes her, and Dee, tick!
It’s taken quite a while to pour over the hours and hours of featurettes, commentaries, videoBlogs, deleted scenes and of course, Extended Episodes on this, the final DVD Box-Set we’ll ever see for Battlestar Galactica. Not to mention getting it signed by President Laura Roslin herself. And at last, we announce the winner of the Mary McDonnell signed Season 4.5 set, along with our thoughts on the DVDs themselves. Hot on the heels of this baby is our review of The Plan, along with details on how you can win dinner with Admiral Adama!
Jane Espenson and Edward James Olmos were the people in charge on this one: Olmos was there for every episode that went into making The Plan happen in Season 2, and Jane was there for none of them and it shows. Amazing direction, performances, visuals compliment a story that fires on all cylinders for 30 minutes and then lumbers through the rest of the first two seasons with about as much grace as a Cylon Colony. But goddam, Dean Stockwell was delicious as F-Cavil and C-Cavil on their respective journeys and those Colonies got it good!
We were fortunate enough to catch up with Mary McDonnell one week before her appearance at DragonCon, while she was in Toronto for Fan Expo! Nat had the chance to sit down with her, on set, and chat about her thoughts on Battlestar’s Finale, Laura’s fate, Roslin Tattoos and even Caprica!
Matt was lucky enough to spend some time chatting up Luciana Carro about her opinion on the Battlestar Finale, as well as her upcoming role on Caprica as a recurring character! Kat’s grandmother?
