The Lord then directs Lehi to flee into the wilderness with his wife, Sariah, and his four sons—Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi. The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
As a result of a dream, Lehi sends his sons back to Jerusalem to obtain sacred records on plates of brass from a wicked religious and military leader named Laban. Laban refuses to give up the records and steals Lehi's wealth when Laman attempts to use it to buy the plates. Laman and Lemuel rebel and beat their younger brothers—until an angel appears and saves them. Nephi miraculously obtains possession of the plates by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Lehi and Sariah are grateful and delighted when their sons return with the plates, and Lehi immediately begins to study their contents. Based on 1 Nephi 3–5. The Lord reveals to Lehi that his sons should return to Jerusalem and enlist Ishmael's family in their journey so that those sons could marry Ishmael's daughters and have families. Ishmael's family consents to join them. Along the way, disagreements break out, and Laman and Lemuel lead a rebellion. They bind Nephi and leave him for wild animals to devour him, but Nephi is miraculously released. Laman and Lemuel repent, and the company completes their journey to join with Lehi and Sariah. Based on 1 Nephi 7.
In the wilderness, Lehi has a vision filled with symbolism that includes the tree of life. In his vision he struggles for some time in the dark before finally making his way to the tree. He eats or partakes of its fruit and desires his family to do likewise. He sees a rod of iron, a strait and narrow path, and the mists of darkness that enshroud men. Sariah, Nephi, and Sam eat the fruit, but Laman and Lemuel refuse. Based on 1 Nephi 8
Lehi's sons marry the daughters of Ishmael and fulfill the Lord's commands. The Lord commands the company to continue on their journey and provides a tool called the Liahona that shows the direction to go. All the hunting bows become weak or break, but Nephi shows faith by making a new bow, asking his father where to find food, and then successfully hunting where the Lord directed him to go. Lehi’s family learns that God's guidance comes in response to their faith, humility, and diligence in keeping His commandments. Based on 1 Nephi 16.
After eight years in the wilderness, Lehi's growing family comes to a land near the sea. They call it Bountiful because of its abundant fruit and wild honey. Nephi hears the voice of the Lord commanding him to go up into the mountain to pray. There he receives a commandment from the Lord to build a ship to carry his people across the sea. Nephi prays to know where he might find ore to make tools to build the ship. He makes a bellows from animal skins and uses rocks to make fire. After crafting tools, he sets to work building the ship. When Laman and Lemuel discover what Nephi is doing, they call him a fool and criticize his efforts. He responds by recounting the history of God's dealings with their ancestors, the children of Israel, and reminds them that they themselves have seen an angel. As he speaks, Nephi is filled with the power of God, and Laman and Lemuel are afraid to contend against him for many days. The Lord speaks to Nephi and tells him to stretch forth his hand toward his brothers. He does so, and the Lord shocks them. Laman and Lemuel confess that they know the Lord is with Nephi. Lehi’s family finishes the ship and sets sail towards the promised land. Based on 1 Nephi 17–18.
Lehi's family continues their journey to the promised land. After days at sea, Nephi's brothers and the sons of Ishmael and their wives begin to offend the Spirit with inappropriate singing, dancing, and rude speech. When Nephi counsels them to stop for fear that the Lord will become angry with them, Laman and Lemuel take him and bind him with cords. The Liahona ceases to work, and a great storm beats against the ship for three days. On the fourth day, when Laman and Lemuel are certain they will be swallowed up by the storm, they begin to see that the judgments of God are upon them so they release Nephi. The Liahona begins to work again, and Nephi steers the ship toward the promised land. Lehi’s family arrives at the promised land. Based on 1 Nephi 18.

Heavy destruction comes upon the people of Ancient America. Hope returns as survivors gather and witness the Resurrected Christ descend from Heaven. Jesus ministers among them and angels appear.
Latter-day Saints share the faith-filled journey and challenges they faced to film the appearance of Christ in the Ancient Americas as recorded in 3 Nephi in the Book of Mormon.
Before Jesus Christ appeared to the people of Ancient America, they suffered through extreme disasters – earthquakes, storms and fires claimed countless lives and destroyed entire cities. Three days of darkness began. During the time of vast darkness, widespread suffering caused the surviving people to cry out with intense sorrow – all of which fulfilled the words of the prophets, foretelling the crucifixion of Christ. Ultimately, the suffering of these ancient people came to a close. They heard the voice of Christ speak to them. The voice of God the Father was heard introducing Jesus as His Beloved Son. The people saw the resurrected Savior come down to earth and minister to them.
Jesus Christ teaches people of the Americas and calls the prophet Nephi and other disciples by name, giving them power to baptize those who repent and believe in Him. One by one, these disciples come forward and Jesus demonstrates in front of the people how those who believe in Him are to be immersed in the water and baptized. Jesus also recites the baptismal prayer to be offered at baptism. Jesus declares His doctrine and calls a child to stand before them. He teaches the multitude that they must repent, believe in Him, become as a little child and be baptized in His name.
Jesus Christ continues His teachings during His visitation to people of Ancient America. Jesus’ words reflect the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes as found in the Gospel of Matthew 5 – 7. The twelve disciples called by Jesus to minister are seated before the people as the Lord teaches His gospel. Jesus is shown walking among the multitude, emphasizing His doctrine.
Jesus tells the people of Ancient America that they are the “other sheep” of His fold, as recorded in the Bible and spoken of by the Lord to those in Jerusalem. Jesus explains that His gospel fulfills the law of the prophets, and the law of Moses has an end in Him. Jesus declares that He is the law and the life, and those who believe in Him and endure in His gospel, will gain eternal life. Jesus also speaks of the gospel restored in the latter-days and His covenant and promise to gather the scattered House of Israel.
Jesus ministers to people of Ancient America and perceives their weakness. Full of compassion for them, He heals their sick, calls little children forward and prays. Angels descend from heaven and minister unto them. These next passages of scripture attempt to describe an event too marvelous and joyous to accurately explain or comprehend.
Jesus establishes His sacrament among people of Ancient America. The Lord blesses bread and wine and administers the sacrament in remembrance of His body and His blood, which was shed for all people. The prayer, spoken by Christ, is the essential sacrament prayer offered by priesthood holders and administered on the Sabbath day in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The preparation of the sacrament portrayed here is similar in form to the sacrament as it is prepared and blessed before Latter-day Saint congregations around the world.
The prophet Nephi and the disciples of Christ go out to gather the people of Ancient America, declaring that Jesus has appeared unto them. Baptisms are performed and Jesus returns to show Himself again. Children and adults speak of miracles and healing they witnessed and received at the hands of Christ. The people who hear their personal testimonies of Jesus believe their words and gather to the place of Christ’s previous appearance. Their numbers are so great, the disciples organize the people into groups in order to more effectively teach and minister unto them. Those who believe in Christ and repent are baptized. Angels descend from heaven and Jesus appears to the Prophet Nephi and the people again to minister among them and pray to the Father.
Jesus blesses and administers His sacrament to the people of Ancient America. The Lord teaches them they are a remnant of the House of Israel and will be gathered according to the covenant of the Father. Jesus says He will establish the people in the land of the Americas and they will be brought to the knowledge of their Redeemer. He calls them the children of the prophets, the children of the covenant and the seed of Abraham. 3 Nephi 20: 1 – 25
Jesus answers the prayer of the prophet Nephi and appears to him and the other disciples of Ancient America. The Lord tells Nephi that His Church will be known by His name, just as His followers are known by His name. Jesus teaches the disciples more of His gospel of faith, repentance and baptism. He teaches that no unclean thing can enter into God’s presence, except those who are cleansed through the atoning blood of Christ. 3 Nephi 27: 1 – 25
