Sir Patrick Moore 75 years ago, the most recently discovered planet in our solar system was discovered by an American called Clyde Tombaugh. The planet was called 'Pluto', a name chosen by an 11 year old girl from Oxford! To tell us about Pluto's discovery, Patrick Moore appeared on the show. It was Patrick's tenth appearance on Blue Peter since his first in December 1973, when he spent time comet spotting with presenter of the day, Peter Purves. To mark Patrick's many achievements, Simon awarded him a gold Blue Peter badge. The Blue Peter Asteroid Discovered on the 7th January 2000 by the Lowell Observatory, asteroid 16197 was this week officially named 'Bluepeter'. We were presented with the certificate by the International Astronomical Union. Asteroids must be named with one word, which is why blue and peter have been put together to ake 'Bluepeter'. We don't know its size but its brightness suggests that it is about 4km. At present it is about 2.5 AU (astronomical units) from

Konnie visited Uganda in East Africa to see how children there are benefiting from Comic Relief projects that your donations are helping to fund. She met Diana and Nilumansi, both of whose parents have died; but with your help, their future is looking brighter. Diana's story Diana is a just thirteen years old, but she's already been the head of her house for three years bringing up her three younger brothers, six year old twins Kato and Wasswa, and twelve year old Disan. Currently, none of them go to school because they need to earn money to eat. Konnie discovered that to earn money Diana, Kato and Wasswa help other farmers to dig their fields and Disan fetches water from the well for other families. Now, thanks to the Comic Relief project 'Send a cow' (which provides both cows and goats), they will be getting two dairy goats. Liz tried her hand at throwing a stone but only managed to succeed in helping out the other team! . Plus: Climbing An Ice Wall Simon's challenge is to finish a World Championship ice climb after only day's training.Simon gets some tips from a climbing champion: ""You'll be wearing crampons (strap-on spikes) on your feet, and holding ice picks in each hand."" He'll be performing in this years Magic Circle Young Magician of the Year competition which takes place in April. What you think of as taste, is actually flavour. But what something looks like can also influence what you think you taste and smell. Paint a Plane We unveiled the winning design from the Paint a Plane competition. It was painted on to the side of a Boeing 757 and will be seen flying around the world. Cheerleading The Ascension Cheerleaders spurred our winners on with an impressive pom pom and tumbling display. The Ascension cheerleaders have won more titles than any British cheer team and have recently launched the London Cheerleading Academy (LCA). Cheerleading is a fun energetic sport. Madonna, Britney Spears, Julia Roberts, and Kirsten Dunst are all former cheerleaders. Einstein Flip A unique BMX flip was performed for the first time ever on live television. A member of Team Extreme successfully completed this 360-degree back-flip. A physicist came up with the stunt with the help of Team Extreme to mark the launch of Einstein Year - The Year of Physics. Einstein was also a keen cyclist and it is thought that inspiration for his theory of Relativity came to him while riding his bicycle.

Simon was keeping his distance when he was joined by a shoal of piranhas from the Weymouth Sealife centre and an expert. Piranhas are one of the most infamous Amazon inhabitants. They are known for being incredibly mean. They are capable of stripping and eating even large prey in a matter of seconds. We had two species in the studio; the Red Belly and the Silver Dollar piranha. Surprisingly, the silver dollar piranha is a vegetarian. We fed each species to see how quickly they could devour their food. The Royal Northern Ballet Theatre came to the studio to perform an extract from their ballet version of 'Peter Pan'. Northumbria Police Dog technology The Northumbria Police force demonstrated the latest police dog technology with their playful pooch, Butch. The fidocam is a mini camera, which police dogs wear on their heads when they are searching buildings for police suspects. Using the camera, the police officers can see the image beamed back to a little monitor and instruct the dog on it's movements using a little speaker on the camera. We also met Alfie, a 14 week old puppy training to become a police dog. It takes 12 weeks of initial training to become a general police dog and then the best of those go on to become camera dogs. There is currently a national shortage of puppies donated by the public so if you are looking to give a puppy (no older than two years of age) a new home contact your local police force to see whether it may be suitable for them.
