With a nice hit from Mizutani, Suyama gains another point for Nishiura. Hanai also tries to steal another run on the same play, but is stopped by Kawai. Tajima feels down because he hasn’t been able to contribute any runs, but the other guys cheer him up by saying that they will get him another chance to bat once more.
토세이의 실수를 기회로 1루에 출루한 스야마. 그리고 다음 타자는 4번 타자 타지마였다. 카와이는 지금까지 타지마의 플레이를 통해 ‘편한 4번’이라고 생각하고 있었다. 하지만 타석에 선 타지마의 자연스러운 자세를 보고 그의 역량을 잘못 파악하고 있었다는 걸 느낀다. 한편 투수인 타카세는 카와이의 지시가 타자를 파악하기 위한 것이라는 걸 알아채고 지금까지 자신이 느꼈던 ‘못 치는 4번’이라는 인상을 버리고 전력으로 승부에 임한다. 그렇게 니시우라의 4번타자와 토세이의 배터리 간의 길고 긴 승부가 시작된다.
