Three months have passed and Màiri is still struggling to cope with the memory of the night she was attacked. Roddy has moved to Camus and has taken over the hotel, with the backing of close friend Iseabail. Meanwhile, Donneil is busy with the Trust and has hired Alasdair to manage the building of the new community hall. And Cailean and Sarah Jane have some surprising news to share.
Camus residents are stunned by shocking news, while others are forced to face the personal effects of the tragedy. Cailean is busy with police duties and supporting Donneil. Màiri worries the truth about her involvement will be revealed. Donneil and Claire discover some documents in Pàdruig's house that leads to more questions from Claire, but this time about Isla.
A conversation with Ceitidh takes Claire a step closer to the truth about what happened to Pàdruig, and a witness reveals to her what they saw. Màiri and Alasdair have some news to share with Tormod and Iseabail ,and as Ciorstaidh prepares to leave the island to go to university, Iain realises how much he will miss her.
Donneil believes he has gotten away with the murder of his brother and shows his full support to Màiri and Tormod. Meanwhile, Iain is forced to work in the cafe with Donna, and Anndra’s boat is stranded at the pier. Anndra has his own personal woes as he struggles to come to terms with who he really is, while his sister Ceitidh struggles with being bullied. Iain and Finlay are confused by Donna’s fear that she and Finlay were instrumental in sending Màiri and Tormod to prison.

Iseabail visits Tormod in prison, but the news she shares doesn’t have the desired effect. After the drunken afternoon on the boat, Anndra is surprised by a handsome visitor.
It’s the day of Pàdruig’s funeral, but with some unexpected guests, the day doesn’t run as smoothly as it should. Màiri returns to the woods, determined to retrace her steps from that fateful night. Between the funeral, old films and whisky, Donneil’s guilt starts chipping away at him, and Iain is the one to suffer the consequences. Isla struggles to contain her emotions, which ripples fury within the family. Anndra and his new friend get on like a house on fire, while Ceitidh resorts to doing something drastic to get attention. Cailean starts his own investigation as he realises that Màiri may have been right all along. When Donna is invited to Glasgow, she tells Finlay she’s going to visit Tormod in prison – alone.

Now that Sarah Jane is in hospital, Cailean’s outlook on life has changed, and he and Isla finally share a bond. As Donna leaves for Glasgow, Iain deciding to go with her could scupper her trip.

Peigi receives some visitors in Glasgow, who have their own news to share. Things go from bad to worse for Anndra, while Alasdair and Cailean join forces to try and trace Màiri – but will Alasdair get home in time?

But she soon realises that money can’t buy her happiness as she sets her sights on something, or someone, that money can’t buy. Sarah Jane’s life goes from strength to strength until a stranger from her past arrives back in Camus. He puts his own life in danger when Sarah Jane and the rest of the community shun him – everyone but Ceitidh, the only one who takes pity on him. Despite Finlay’s concerns, Donna is optimistic for the future, though Iain distances himself from the family and keeps himself busy working on the estate.
Anndra finds a girl in the hull of a boat out at sea, though her true connection to the island is initially unclear. Isla is keen to take things to the next level with her potential suitor and believes she’s figured out the real reason it’s not moving on as she’d hoped. Donna and Finlay struggle to be honest with each other about their feelings, while Iain gets an unexpected lodger in his bothy.
Jo threatens Pòl and forces him to help her, unaware that Ceitidh is keeping an eye on them. Cailean is willing to do whatever it takes to spend quality time with his son. Jo and Isla get to know each other a bit better, though Jo’s motives for the friendship are unclear – but little does she know that even more trouble lies ahead.
Sarah Jane learns the truth about Alasdair after she’s delivered her news to a devastated Cailean. He is overcome by fury and no one is keeping an eye on wee Donnie playing in the garden… Things go from bad to worse for Jo and Pòl as they are finally tracked down. Iain takes a big step and finally admits what he’s really feeling, reuniting with his father to try and help Donna.
Games, drinks, old friends and strippers make for an entertaining hen do for Màiri - though not so much for Iseabail. Tormod’s words of comfort don’t reassure her either and there seems to be more to her woes than meets the eye. Lucas, the groom, is the high-school guidance teacher who tries to advise Ceitidh when the bullies steal her phone and tease her about her new online friend Calum. Isla has sold the house as she prepares to leave Camus behind and go travelling. She reacts angrily to Alasdair’s new girlfriend. Donna returns home from chemotherapy and looks forward to going to Màiri’s wedding, but Finlay and Iain don’t agree on whether she can go.

Ceitidh is disappointed when Calum doesn’t show up for their date but she soon forgives him and they take their relationship to the next level. Tormod doesn’t know how to deal with the shocking news he learned at the party. Tension mounts as the family and Raonaid gather at Màiri and Lucas’ but Màiri is completely oblivious to it. With Lucas safely out of sight, Màiri has a special surprise for Tormod, only for him to reveal his big secret. Donna is back in hospital and she, Finlay and Iain fall out.
Ceitidh is excited to receive a gift from Calum in the post, but it comes with a nasty surprise. Lucas, with Anndra, Isla and Tormod’s help, carries on preparing the hall for the wedding, while Màiri is left reeling from Tormod’s bombshell. Despite being poorly in hospital, nothing will stop Donna from setting Iain and Angela up.

The story of Màiri MacDonald's return home to the island from which she escaped eight years ago, having left her family and the place, its claustrophobia and its customs. However, her homecoming is longer than anticipated as the emotional ties ('bannan') renew their hold. In this first episode, Màiri reluctantly returns home for a funeral and is quickly reminded of the reasons why she left: the local gossips and a face from the past she hoped not to see. However, whilst on the island with her grandmother Peggy and cousin Iain, Màiri realises what was so long overdue, time together. What she is unaware of however, is someone's plans to keep her there.
Màiri is joined by her partner Alasdair who is drawn to the beauty of the island, its characters and their stories. However, friction develops as Màiri's past and present collide as she encounters an old flame and a previously absent father. Tensions also rise between Finlay, Donna and Iain as their outward appearance of wealth begins to crumble.
