In the aftermath of a fatal carriage accident that made national news, the islanders are doing their best to return to normal life. Puffin, the feisty chair of the carnival committee, is busy encouraging everyone to take part in the annual scarecrow competition. She passes the honour of judging the competition to Reverend Gill Nicholls. Little does Gill know that it means that her own ambitious entry will be disqualified. Local shepherd and musician David Scott nervously rehearses his folk band for one of the biggest events in the island's calendar, the Sark Folk Festival.
