We have 2 bikes this month, both have been reviewed on the show before and both are not what you would called ‘normal’ adventure bikes, but Graham takes the KTM 525 and Tom the KTM Freeride 250F on a 2 week journey to see how well they can really do on an adventure. We have 2 brand new segments starting on this months show and the first is Top Riding Tip! Mark Molineux gives Graham tips every month, that will help everyone improve their riding! The second new segment this month is Bike Build. Tom is joined by friend and adventure rider Sam Farah and with a £4000 budget they debate what bike to use as a base for the project. Of course the show starts with a bike review and this one is a bit of a curveball, it’s a new smaller engined scrambler from Husqvana and it’s fair to say opinions are very divided on this bike, especially the looks. We have our brand new segment called Adventure Advice! Every months Clare from Expedition 52 (exp52.com) will be answering your question about adventure travel, this month she talk about how to start planning your trip, and then answers some quick fire questions about herself so you can get to know her! Please send in your questions, every month clare will pick one to answer in full and as many as she can in the quick fire ‘Just The Tip’ segment. Next we have Under The Visor and this month we have Ferenc Fodor, a regular at a lot of bike meets, he tells a frank tail of why he no longer runs tours, how he hopes to build a successful YouTube channel with his Vlogs and why riding with his wife is so important to him. This months Top Tip is all about riding on mud, remember this isn’t a full lesson, its a few tips to improve your riding on the wet sloppy stuff, and although they may seem small, it made a real difference to Grahams riding. This month, on Film School, Tom continues looking at the editing side of film making, showing how editing can be used to make interesting story. Its not that exciting if you aren’t into filmmaking so feel free to skip this part but keep checking in as Tom will be doing some more exciting gear reviews soon! And last but not least we have Bike Build! This month is like a Soap Opera! Sam goes and buys a bike without telling Tom and Tom isn’t happy!
We get our hands on the new BMW F850! Graham heads down to Dick Lovett BMW to test their latest mid range bike. In truth Graham didn’t like the old F800 at all, but with the F850 being rebuild from the ground up, does it change his mind? Clare get to grips with International Driving Permits in this months Adventure Advice and once again clare makes a boring subject interesting some how! In riding tips, Graham learns the basics of riding on gravel and gets a telling of about his foot placement! Remy Wesolowski is on this months ‘Under The Visor’, her bubbly character shines through as we explains how a ride on the back of a friends bike turned her backpacking adventure into an amazing Motorcycle adventure. In Film School, Tom talks about the differences between colour correction and colour grading, and promises that next month he will review a cool bit of kit! And lastly, in Bike Build, Tom and Sam start work on the KTM 990 build and its not good news!
Graham get invited to the KTM press day at Sweet Lamb and uses the opportunity to test the KTM 1290 Adv R and the 1090 Adv R in a full off road environment, plus he gets a first look at the KTM 790 Adventure! In this month ‘Top Riding Tips’, Mark gives so tips to Graham on riding in a rocky gully, and after Graham drop into the gully, you can't doubt his commitment. In ‘Adventure Advice’ Clare talks us through Carnets, with great examples and an over amorous monkey to help you get your head around it all. This months ‘Under The Visor’ is a man who travels all over the world on motorcycle with no GPS or even a map! just a compass! Sam gets his hands on the new KTM 890 Adventure R, and asks the important question, if you have the 790, is it worth the upgrade? Tales from the trails see’s a change of bikes, from the sidecar to Australian Postie bikes when the guy drop in to see author and adventurer, Nathan Millward. Clare tell the story of her motorcycling inspiration, a man not many have heard of, Charles Blois. Finally Graham looks at the history of motorcycle adventures on TV, where you might find some great new content to watch.
Graham asks an important question about electric motorcycles, are they ever going to work for the adventure market? He heads down to the English Electric Motor Company to ride a range of electric bikes and see adventure riding is ready to go electric. In Tales from the Tails the team heads to an abandoned airfield so they can all have a turn riding the sidecar, and then head to a little gem of WW2 history. Sam talks about his inspiration, Charley Boorman, not a surprise but he has an interesting take on what Charley has done. Finally, its back to Sam for his 24hr adventure in the Lake District with the beast of a bike that is the Honda Goldwing.
Clare starts the episode with a look at the Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT, finding out if the classic Dakar looks are matched by the performance. In tales from the trails, the boys head to another abandoned airfield but this one has a oval race track, so unsurprisingly they started to race. Graham talks about his inspiration in the adventure world and his bromance with Nathan Millward. To finish the episode, Sam follows a lifelong dream, starting his journey to racing in a rally.
Graham finishes the series by asking a very controversial question, is the BMW GS, still really a GS? He offers an alternative in the form of the BMW NineT 30 Years Edition, which he argues in more in line with the original GS ethos. In the last of Tales from the Trails the team head to an indoor MX track, where Sam gets a little exuberant. Tom talks about his other inspiration, telling you a bit about the host of the show. To finish the series Graham heads of his 24hr adventure which is on a bike…and a van.
