鞭炮震响了平静的小镇，原来李家的独子兴旺从国外农耕队回来了，亲戚朋友都来向兴旺的寡母王兰及妻子喜鹊恭喜。兴旺抵家时，寡母王兰含泪抱着这个独子，3年前，这个独子被派出国工作，她天天祈求老天保佑，如今兴旺总算平安回来。兴旺看着一边流着欢喜泪的妻子喜鹊，还有那离开时才刚生下的儿子大头李明德，如今会走路了，心中百感交集。一旁的喜鹊，心中更是欣慰无法形容，在亲友祝贺中，大家欢喜地吃着饭,只有开杂货店的田丰，虽然笑在脸上，却难掩失望之情。夜里,登财特来邀约兴旺至小吃店饮酒,没想到兴旺酒醉不慎摔落水沟身亡。
