Sarja alkaa helsinkiläisen Ravintola Blackcatin ajauduttua konkurssiin, jolloin työntekijät irtisanotaan. Osa saa töitä muista ravintoloista, mutta Anna jää dementoituneen äitinsä omaishoitajaksi. Iäkäs äiti kuitenkin kuolee pian ja Anna jää yksin toimettomaksi. Eräänä iltana hän kulkee entisen työpaikkansa ohitse ja huomaa Blackcatin tilojen olevan vuokrattavana. Lassen tuella Anna vuokraa ilkeältä isännöitsijältä paikan uutta ravintolaa varten.
