初期はハード・シリアス色も強い作風で、重大事件が発生した際には県警本部の刑事が港署に派遣されるなど、わずかながらリアルな描写も見られた。中期以降は徐々にコミカルさが増し、後年のようなスタイルへと変貌していった。 ロケ地である横浜市中区も、放送当時はまだ再開発が行われる前であり、新港埠頭、髙島貨物駅、バンドホテル、イセザキモールのオブジェなど、後の再開発で取り壊されてしまった名所が頻繁に登場する。
