It began with the title of KBS Broadcast Music Awards, taking over the TBC Broadcast Music Awards , which ran until 1980 , and the plan was to award awards separately for the music and Korean traditional music categories.
The award category was also divided into male and female categories like the TBC Broadcasting Music Awards, and in the first historical year, male and female singer awards went to Cho Yong-pil and Lee Jung-hee, respectively .
It was held at Jangchung Gymnasium , but there were frequent broadcasting accidents where some singers' songs could not be heard well, and perhaps because of that, Jangchung Gymnasium was never used for the KBS year-end song awards ceremony/song festival.
