It is 1976 in Tokyo and Sokichi Takenaka and his wife Umeko run a small, but successful printing company. When a fire from the restaurant next door spreads to their business, no one is able to find Sokichi to notify him. It turns out Sokichi was not entertaining clients as he had told Umeko, but was actually at the home of Kikuyo, a woman with whom Sokichi began a relationship six years earlier. Two years later, Sokichi and Umeko have rebuilt their printing company, but money is tight and Sokichi can no longer support Kikuyo and the three children they have together. A fed up Kikuyo forces herself into Sokichi’s home and comes face to face with Umeko for the first time. What happens next?
