During the making of a Chinese film in the harbour a stunt man gets killed by a sword, which someone stuck in a slit in a door. There are four suspects. Henk van Leur scouts for locations for the film. His brother was involved with the Chinese mafia a few years back and was shot dead on the street. Henk is still upset about this and pestered the police at the time to find the killer. They never found him. Cor Dijkstra does the catering. He had a Chinese wife, but she left him 18 years ago. Jimmie Do is a young man who is a stand-in for the stuntmen and adores Ka Sing who is the lead actor in the film. His dream is to become a stuntman. Siu-Waj is the leading lady and only speaks a few words Dutch. It seems that someone kicked her by accident during a shoot. Lex finds her very attractive. While on patrol Busse comes across another dead Chinese stuntman. The next day they continue filming. Two stuntmen are in the mast of the ship and act a fight. One of them falls and is supposed to get caught by a safety net. When he hits the net, the rope, with which it is fastened, breaks and the stuntmen hits the ground and dies. There are now three Chinese stuntmen dead within 24 hours. Busse gets a new partner: Rayna, fresh from the police academy. She immediately makes the impression that she is no pushover and almost loses her new job on the first day. Chief Nora Roemers has a meeting with a Chinese delegation. She tells them that they have to stop filming, because the police can't guarantee their safety anymore. When she leaves the meeting she gets shot. Luckily only her arm was hit. Lex gets talking with the chambermaid of the hotel where Siu-Waj stays. She has been in The Netherlands for a long time and knows a lot about the Chinese community. She becomes the key to the solution of the case.
The Yugoslavian ambassador and his wife get a tour on a ship on the Maas in the presence of the mayor. The river police keep an eye out. Suddenly there are three shots. The ambassador gets shot in the head and dies on his way to the hospital. The building, from where the shots were fired, is surrounded immediately. Four people come out. Luc Dupont is a Belgian who studies in Delft. He was with Jetje de Groot. A shy Dutch girl. They both say they haven't heard any of the shots. They both seem very unlikely candidates for the murder. Then there is Pieter Scheper. He is a freelance photographer and has a job as a waiter at the Park Hotel, where the ambassador stayed. Rayna asks where he originally comes from and writes it down: Pec. Pec is a place in Yugoslavia. Has he got a motive for killing the Yugoslavian ambassador? He was a volunteer in the army and a perfect marksman. The fourth person is a homeless person. He was very drunk when they got everyone out of the building. Next day Nora meets him in the library and they get talking. It seems he was a historian, but was fired because of his drinking problem. Everyday he can be found in the library. But not the day before, because the library was closed. He is very interested in the American history and especially in how some of the American presidents were shot. It also seems the police hadn't checked if he was actually drunk that day, because he was stinking of booze at the time and they just assumed he was drunk. But was he really drunk or just pretending?
Ome Ko (61) is marrying Katja Altich (29). They have their party on a boat. The river police observe from a distance, because they know ome Ko very well and wonder why Katja is marrying ome Ko. They only knew each other for six weeks. When the band starts to play, Katja walks away through the crowd and the police loose sight of her. Suddenly they see something white in the water. White with red. The bride is dead. The rudder of a second boat crushed her head. Ome Ko is also considered a suspect, but is soon cleared. He is very upset about the death of his bride and handcuffs himself to a table at the police station. He insists they find the murderer. It turns out that Katja was a porn star. Just before the wedding she told ome Ko, but he didn't seem to care, he just loved her. Xandra is Katja's sister and she holds a grouch against her, because Katja inherited everything from their wealthy father and Xandra got nothing. Arthur had been her lover for some time and was present at the wedding. He was also her co-star in her films. And then there is Conny. He used to be the producer of her films and says Katja had lost all her money and needed some badly. Now she is dead and the murderer can't be found there is a lot of interest in the papers and on TV for the ex-porn-star. This also means there is a new interest in her films. Which means money for the producer and the ex-boyfriend. But also for Katja?
The women eight rowing team is practicing on the river. Suddenly the cox sees a man, half swimming, half drowning. It's impossible to stop or steer away in time and they go over him. The man, Gary Kelly, had a lot of money on him. It turns out that he was shot before he got in the water. At the point where he went in the river, there are also found two drums with chemical waste. The stickers on them lead the police to the firm Madeco, which is a waste-disposal plant. The manager, Jack van de Made, says that the stickers are theirs, but the drums aren't. At first he denies to know Gary Kelly, but he has to come back on that after it turns out that he personally fired him. Jack was involved with fraud, but had it all cleared some time ago. Gary said, at the moment he was fired, he had some papers in relation to the fraud, which would have been very bad for Jack. Gary went to work for the firm Laurie after he was fired, which is also a waste-disposal plant. The manager, Frans Bom, has a 23 percent share in Madeco. After it got known that Madeco was involved with illegal waste-disposal, it's shares dropped rapidly on the stock exchange. This also means that it is a very good time for Frans to take over Madeco. The team find out that drums were from Laurie. Who had the better motive for the murder
