Pete Collins had spent many years presenting the strange and weird from the human world - on stage. He made a move into television. In 1955 he produced this pilot that featured people doing strange things or with unusual talents. It featured three items from Belgium 1) the art of 'Tapis de Sable' (sand painting) with artist Pierre Van Ransbeeck from Hekelgem; Jose Meiffret a cyclist attempting to beat the cycling land speed record of 109 mph and Fernand Bachelard an 8 foot tall man showing Pete Collins the sights of Brussels. It was made for a possible sale to the Independent Television Network. Polytechnic Films, which was based at Taplow, Bucks, went into liquidation in 1957. The series was never shown, but was release on DVD in 2015 as part of the "The Lost Worlds of Gerry Anderson".
