Searching for peace and quiet to work on his paintings while being haunted by images of the Civil War, Winslow Homer's solitude is interrupted by two children. Gabe lives in the shadow of his soldier brother and talks constantly of the glory of being a sharp shooter. Fiona is a compulsive liar with the belief that any life is better than her own. The three are connect by the "ghosts" which follow them. Eventually, they come to rely on one another for friendship as Homer uses the Gabe and Fee as the subjects of many paintings depicting the beauty of everyday life.
