Wallis Simpson compte parmi les femmes les plus vilipendées du XXe siècle. C'est en effet pour épouser cette Américaine deux fois divorcée que le roi d'Angleterre Édouard VIII renonce au trône en 1936, après moins d'un an de règne. Née en 1896 en Pennsylvanie, Wallis, orpheline de père, grandit dans des conditions précaires et mise très tôt sur le mariage pour progresser socialement. Mais ses choix matrimoniaux sont loin d'être toujours heureux.
