Junge Männer aus Nordkorea lernen und studieren in den 1950er Jahren in der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik. Dort verlieben sie sich in deutsche Frauen. Einige von ihnen heiraten und bekommen Kinder. Anfang der 60er Jahre wird ihnen plötzlich befohlen, nach Nordkorea zurückzukehren, und sie müssen ihre Frauen und Kinder zurücklassen. Der Film erzählt die Geschichte aus der Sicht der Frauen und Kinder.
