Phillip ist wohlhabend und querschnittsgelähmt. Er braucht einen Pfleger, der ihm im alltäglichen Leben in seinem New Yorker Penthouse hilft. Er stellt Dell ein, der auf Bewährung ist und versucht, den Kontakt mit seiner Ex und seinem jungen Sohn wieder herzustellen. Obwohl sie aus zwei verschiedenen Welten stammen, beginnt eine ungewöhnliche Freundschaft zu blühen. Zusammen entdecken Dell und Phillip die Freude am Leben in vollen Zügen wieder.

Speeding through New York City in a Ferrari, Dell Scott (Kevin Hart) and Philip Lacasse (Bryan Cranston) are pulled over by the police. Dell convinces the officers that he is rushing Philip to the emergency room; Philip grudgingly plays along, and the two are escorted to the hospital.

Phil è un tetraplegico in cerca di un badante che lo aiuti. Tra i tanti aspiranti si presenta Dell, non per farsi assumere, ma solo per ottenere una firma che attesti la sua partecipazione al colloquio da presentare al suo ufficiale di custodia.

Dell Scott (Kevin Hart) precisa de seguir em frente. Em liberdade condicional, desempregado e impedido de ver o filho, o destino deu-lhe a oportunidade de uma vida – cuidar de um multimilionário chamado Phillip (Bryan Cranston) que está paralisado do pescoço para baixo devido a um acidente de parapente.

Un milliardaire handicapé, Phillip Lacasse, pense que la vie ne mérite plus d'être vécue jusqu'au jour où son quotidien est dynamisé par l'arrivée de l'excentrique Dell Scott, un ancien détenu en liberté conditionnelle qu'il engage pour l'aider dans ses tâches quotidiennes. Opposés sur le plan social, les deux hommes deviennent rapidement des amis et Phillip reprend goût à la vie grâce à son nouvel ami.
