La mamma è morta e il babbo è piuttosto distratto, così Bastian si rifugia nei libri per non smettere di sognare. Uno di questi, "La storia che non ha mai fine", letto da solo in soffitta durante un giorno e una notte di tempesta, gli offre la possibilità di vivere nel regno di Fantàsia che sta morendo perché la gente ha smesso di sognare. E sarà proprio Bastian a salvare l'Imperatrice bambina e a volare via su un drago alato. Suggestiva superproduzione tedesca, girata però in inglese, che all'epoca ottenne un grande successo grazie alla fiabesca vicenda del romanzo di Michael Ende (debitamente semplificata) e alla colonna sonora di Giorgio Moroder. Appassionante e non stucchevole.

Bastian Balthazar Bux is a shy and outcast bibliophile ten-year-old raised by his widowed father, teased by bullies from school. On his way to school, he hides from the bullies in a bookstore, interrupting the grumpy bookseller, Mr. Coreander. Bastian asks about one of the books he sees, called "The Neverending Story", but Mr. Coreander advises against it. With his curiosity piqued, Bastian seizes the book, leaving a note promising to return it, and hides in the school's attic to read.
