Puglia, anni ’50. Nena è una giovane maestra, innamorata di un ragazzo dell’alta borghesia, messa sotto pressione dalle preoccupazioni della madre. Quando arriva la lettera di assunzione in una piccola scuola nel sud salentino, fa le valigie e parte a malincuore, curiosa della sua nuova esperienza ma triste per la lontananza dal suo amore. Dopo le prime difficoltà di integrazione nella piccola comunità agreste, riesce a trovare un equilibrio che verrà nuovamente messo in discussione dalla notizia dell’innamoramento del fidanzato per un’altra donna.
Nena, a girl from the south of Italy, has to travel far from home to get her first job as a teacher. She is sad, not because she has to leave her mother and sister, with whom everything is clear and sometimes difficult, but because she is having a serious love affair with someone from her village to whom she is very committed: a young upper-middle class man who seems to sincerely feel the same.
