Professor Barabas werkt in het verhaal aan een fantastische nieuwe uitvinding: de Sterrentapper. De uitvinding is nog niet helemaal klaar maar Wiske, nieuwsgierig als altijd, kan niet wachten om het fantastische toestel uit te testen. Dit loopt natuurlijk helemaal fout, want Krimson, gemener dan ooit, is ook weer van de partij. Een avontuurlijke reis brengt de vrienden via de teletijdmachine naar de Maya's, in het oude Egypte en in China.
