Sonia Bergerac, a French teacher at a sensitive secondary school, insists on wearing a skirt to class, despite the disapproval of her principal, who is overwhelmed by the decline of the school. On the verge of a nervous breakdown, and having recently been left by her husband, she is finding it increasingly difficult to teach, to cope with the discrimination against girls and the racism of some pupils.
