鬱屈した日々を送る大学生・雅也のもとに、世間を震撼させた連続殺人事件の犯人・榛村から1通の手紙が届く。24件の殺人容疑で逮捕され死刑判決を受けた榛村は、犯行当時、雅也の地元でパン屋を営んでおり、中学生だった雅也もよく店を訪れていた。手紙の中で、榛村は自身の罪を認めたものの、最後の事件は冤罪だと訴え、犯人が他にいることを証明してほしいと雅也に依頼する。独自に事件を調べ始めた雅也は、想像を超えるほどに残酷な真相にたどり着く。
