様々な想いを胸にチャンピオンを狙う男たちの闘いを活写するボクシング映画。名匠・井上梅次の大映初の監督作で、白熱するボクシングシーンの傍ら、若尾文子、野添ひとみら豪華女優陣が複雑な女心を好演し花を添える逸品。チャンピオンが引退し、次期王者の挑戦権をめぐり、有力ジムを率いる峰岸は全盛期を過ぎたランキング1位の山中を推すが、不満を抱く同門の旗は、裏社会の郷田の関わるジムに移り、打倒・山中に燃える。
