Darek ist verliebt in ein Mädchen, das in einer komplizierten Beziehung zu seinem Vater nach Orangen riecht. Er ist sanftmütig, stark und seiner kleinen Schwester und ihrer Herde von Pferden ergeben. Dareks Welt ist eine Geschichte über die Freude und den Schmerz, in den isolierten und doch wunderschönen Lausitzer Bergen aufzuwachsen. Hier sind Pferde keine teuren Exemplare von Rennställen, sondern Wesen, die man pflegen und lieben sollte. Nicht einmal das ist genug im Leben, wie Darek herausfindet, dass er sich dem Ende des Sommers nähert und seine Kindheit definitiv beendet. Wie jedes Ende ist dies jedoch der Beginn von etwas Neuem.

Darek a dû abandonner tout espoir de rejoindre le lycée depuis la mort de sa mère. Il doit aider son père à la ferme et s’occuper de sa petite sœur handicapée. Il trouve toutefois le temps d’honorer tous ses duels avec Hugo, chacun gagnant alternativement cette longue bataille épuisante et toujours recommencée. Mais les temps sont durs et le père a du mal à trouver du travail. Les services sociaux menaces de dissoudre les restes de leur famille. Il y a aussi Marta, la postière, trop souvent à la ferme au goût de Darek. Heureusement, son ami Micha et son attirante sœur arrivent souvent à le transporter loin de sa vie misérable. C’est alors que son père renoue avec Anton, un ancien ami et décide de se lancer dans l’élevage de chevaux. Darek se prend de passion pour ces animaux souvent en très mauvais état et qu’il s’agit de requinquer avant de les revendre pour une seconde vie…

Darek's world is a story about the joy and pain of growing up in the isolated yet beautiful Lusatian Mountains. Here, horses are not expensive specimens of racing stables but beings you should care for and love. Not even that is enough in life though, as Darek finds out nearing the Summer's end, closing his childhood definitely. However, just like any ending, this is a start of something new.

Láska k dívce vonící po pomerančích, zauzlovaný vztah k otci, síla a něha věnovaná malé sestře a stádo koní. To je Darkův svět, to je příběh o šťastném i bolestném dospívání v odloučenosti a kráse Lužických hor. Koně tu nejsou drahé exempláře dostihových stájí, ale bytosti, o které je třeba pečovat a mít je rád. Jenže ani to nestačí, jak Darek pozná na sklonku léta, které je tečkou za jeho dětstvím. Tak jako každá tečka i tahle znamená nejen konec, ale zároveň nový začátek.
