During World War II, Russian prisoners of war was sent to Norway to build railroads under severe, inhuman conditions. Some of those that survived came to a Red Cross hospital in a desolate part of Norway. This story begins a dark winters day in modern time, when a Swedish women travels back, geographically as well as in her memory, to this place. She was a nurse, it was summer and light, and she looked after a Russian soldier.
