Royal navy lieutenant Duncan Fraser is dismissed after taking the blame in court-martial for his friend and captain Gregory Taylor, who arranges a job for him as driver with the wealthy widow Lady Claire Sherberton, who lives an a grand coastal estate with kinsman William and her equally widowed daughter in law Nicole. Duncan falls in love with Nicole, lady Claire is robbed and sabotages their socially undesirable affair.
